  1. Finally I have mostly cleared my bench of part started kits and renovation works that had got piled up over the last year and years. So today there will be quite an amount of airliners showing up on BM...So here is No.1... Last year I was lucky to find another Revell Convair 990 kit on a Swiss auction platform. Together with that kit,the seller also sent me a completed model, which was in a very sorry state. It must have been some decades old already and it was mostly unpainted, just the top was hand painted white. The rest was unpainted palstic with the Swissair decals applied. It sat on my desk for quite a while, until I had my plans ready for a complete redo, repair and repaint work on this classic Revell kit. The first task was to get rid of the old paint,Revells Paint remover worked perfectly for this. Then the unpainted landing gear had to go and all the seams hat to be puttied and sanded smooth as well as some repair work that had to be done. The landing gear was replaced with an unused set that I had left over from my first Revell CV-990 which I built in-flight. After all clean-up and repairwork was completed,it was time for the new paint and livery. I chose the prototype scheme which I think is very elegant. The superb decal set comes from Vintage Flyers and is really nice to work with. For the white I used Testors Classic White, the natural metal parts are painted with Revell metallics and finished with a light coat of Future to give it a nice and shiny appearance. I hope you like it

  3. My latest build is the Authentic Airliners 1:144 Convair 990 in Spantax colours (You can find the Dutch build report over here: https://modelbrouwers.nl/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=52016). I choose this livery because EC-BZO is still standing proud in Mallorca (albeit in a deplorable state). Hope is they will refurbish her and open her up for public display. There is not much to say otherwise. The Kit by AA is a masterpiece as per usual. The kit comes highly recommended and is a much more accurate offering then the F-RSIN kit. The flight deck decals are from Authentic Airliner decals. In wanted to use their window decals as well, but the spacing of the windows on the decals from TwoSix where too narrow to have them fit over it. As the windows were printed on the cheatline, there was nothing I could do (apart from applying the window decals from AA one by one, but obviously I wasn’t in the mood for that). Also, the engine logo decals were wrongly printed for the engines on the right side, but that was easily fixed by simply turning them around (laser printed, so no white background). Also the right side has two windows too many near the tail, but again no way to fixed that. Anyway, on with the pictures! As for my next project; The 7th of October, KLM will celebrate its 100th birthday! Over at the Dutch ModelBrouwers forum we will honour this by having a KLM buddy build (i.e. anyone can enter with a kit, as long as it has a KLM logo on it). I have at least 23 modelkits laying around that I want to build in a KLM livery, so I will be around in this buddy build for a while. I want to start with the Authentic Airliners BAC1-11, followed by the Zvezda 767-300. However, as the 7th of October is still two months away, I will first make the PAS-Models 1:144 Antonov 74TK-300D of the Ukrainian Government, as this is a relatively easy kit and livery to make. As always thank you kindly for the view and see you next time!
  4. This is one of the most difficult to find Revell airliners and prices for this kit are usually astronomic. I had the luck to achieve this one on Ebay for a surprisingly cheap price. The box and all parts were in pristine condition, only the decals showed their age a bit. The kit itself is very nicely molded and has engraved panel lines. Fit is quite ok,the most difficult parts were the wing to fuselage fit which was very poor and required some serious correction work to get the wings in the right angle atached. I decided to build this one as a desktop model. The landing gear is very basic and I didn't like the look of it. As the kit included the classic Revell display stand which allows the model to be displayed in different "flight modes" I decided to omit the landing gear. The Convair 990 looks also very elegant in flight. I decided to paint the whole Swissair livery by airbrush and only use decals for the logos, and other details. Paints are Revell and Testors enamels. For the decals I used a mixture of kits decals (the "Coronado" in the tail, and the "A" from the wing-registration and the registration in the red cheatline) , Swissair titles, logos and the white cross as well as the registration on the wings come from the Glencoe/Frog Convair 880,cabin windows and doors are from a Vintage Flyers decals set. As I tried to build this kit mainly straight from the box I kept the "open cockpit windows" and just filled them with Krystal Klear" The engines show the Coronado before the enhancements she received on behalf of Swissair. Research showed although that the first examples Swissair received came in this configuration and were modified later on so I had not to make alterations on the kits engines. After years of searching for this kit,I can finally add this classic airliner to my collection and it will get a special spot in my vitrine. Cheers
