  1. Hi all, I've decided to declare this one as a runner after she failed to get out of the box within the Mustang GB. I;m way too late and so I'll give her a go here. I might be overcooking things with a Kfir in prospect too but at least they dont require any butchery ;). The F-51D will be built using the new Eduard kit which is said to be delivered at the end of June 🤞. Martin
  2. Its a pleasure for me to be supporting Patrice and Gerard with this STGB. A placeholder for me for a FAU machine. It will be my second attempt at building up a replica of this machine ‘258’, one of the few that operated with unit markings. While the preserved example ‘265’ was so adorned her markings were incorrect, sadly. Equally sadly all decal sets depicting her have replicated those errors. I’ll post more soon. For now it will be Tamiya in 1/72 (of course!). Martin
  3. Does anyone out there have the colours references (FS or otherwise) for the FAU roundel and tail flag? I need to get a set of decals printed. The market seems strewn with various shades, particularly the blue. My gut feeling is that the blue is close to Midnight Blue but it would be great to get conformations. Any ideas @Ignacio @RAGATIGER @Mig88 @Sturmovik et al? Thanks in advance. Martin
  4. Hi all, I am again happy to be rolling out a completed build and, again, it is the next in my line of F-51Ds. This time she is a machine that was operated by the Fuerza Aerea Uruguaya (the Uruguayan Air Force). She was previously 44-63530 (USAF) and was taken into the FAM (forerunner of the FAU) on the 20th July 1950 with only 15 hours 35 minutes airframe and engine time. She was assigned to the “red” group (there was red, white and blue) within the Grupo de Aviacion No.2 (Caza) (the 2nd fighter group) and was based at Carrasco, Uruguay. Her career was fairly un-eventful until the 25th October 1955 when she was stuck while parked at Carrasco by T-6D “FAU 364”, slicing through the rear fuselage and rendering her a write off. She was one of the few Mustangs that flew with the distinctive cat and mouse badge on the tail. Only half a dozen aircraft carried this. A question, however, hangs over the background colour of the badge. It seems from what I have read and seen that this is yellow (as shown) while later preserved machines (FAU 265 in particular) carried it with a blue background. As part of this build, I was supported by Ignacio @Ignacio who sent me a copy of Rolando Grasso Alfaro’s superb reference book on the subject of FAU Mustangs. It helped me enormously. Thank you, Ignacio. So what did I use? Well: 1. Kit – Tamiya P-51D Mustang 1/72 (49) 2. Decals – Aztec “Macho Mustangs” set (thanks to @Julien, plus home printed serials, extra roundels from Armycast, Xtradecal black lining for the dive bombing guidelines, and kit decals for the stencils. 3. Paints – Humbrol enamels throughout – Metalcote Polished Aluminium (27002), Matt Black, Matt White, Insignia Red (153) and others. Also, I used Colourcoats Insignia Blue and Interior Green. 4. Aftermarket – the Teardrop radome from ArmyCast 5. Extras – EZ line for the aerial 6. Weathering/Washes – Tamiya Weathering Powders, Flory Dirt and a Prismacolor silver pencil 7. Finished with Humbrol Satincote I hope you like her. Martin
  5. Hi all! Well the next one rolls out of the paint shop in the form of a Lockheed AT-33A Shooting Star, depicted as she was when operated later in her life with the Fuerza Aerea Uruguaya (the Uruguayan Air Force). Over time the FAU operated 11 of these machines from Durazno Air Base in the centre of the country, with 2 more acquired for spares. “207”, originally a T-33A-20-LO, she was 53-4919 in USAF service and was operated in Uruguay from 23/07/1969 to 05/06/1997. She went on to be one of the last that was operated by the air arm. The T-33s in Uruguayan service had many schemes. Originally they were flown in natural metal finish with the usual national insignia and a unit badge on the port side, for the Grupo de Aviación Nº 2 (Caza). This unit continued to operated them in US-style SEA camouflage, and then Green and Grey camouflage (like US ‘Lizard’). The last machines received were operated in the ADC grey that they had on arrival, and at least one (“209”) flew with “US AIR FORCE” titling still visible on the nose. For this build I have tried to get as close as my old hands would allow to this: I used a little “modeller’s licence” for the camo pattern. The kit is the excellent Platz T-33A kit. I made some errors because I was rushing but I think I got away with it. She is pretty much OOB apart from the markings and the seats. So, what did I do/use?: Platz T-33A Shooting Star kit 1/72 True Details resin seats Mimicked the guns with half round 0.8mm Plastruct rod I added wing pylons from an Airfix F-80 The paints used were Humbrol enamels throughout – the regular 116/117/118/28 (Green/Green/Tan/Grey), plus Black, Flat Aluminium (27001), Gunmetal. Mattcote overall. The decals are Aztec (T-37 wing roundels). I printed the serials, the checkerboard, the unit badge and tail flag on a mix of clear and white decal sheet. Other stencils etc were from the kit and a Microscale Latin Air Forces set for the T-33. From the image above the serial font appears more RCAF than USAF so I went that way, right or wrong. Weathered with Flory Dirt and Tamiya Weathering powders I hope you like her. Thanks for looking. Martin
  6. Well, I have built so many models that I had actually forgotten about this other Uruguayan machine, scratchbuilt at the same time than the three others previously posted. Also part of my sinister past, another practical example of scratchbuilding that is all I want to convey, again hoping not abusing your esteemed patience: The Uruguayan ARME (nothing to do with arms, just the acronym of “Avión de Reconocimiento Modelo Escuela”, -Reconnaissance School Model Plane-) "Montevideo" -in honor of the country's capital city- was a vernacular creation loosely based on the Breguet XIX. It was an observation trainer powered by a 450 hp. Lorraine. One was equipped with floats –of archaic design- aiming to a Montevideo-New York raid (Via the Pacific Ocean climbing the Andes, not an easy feat) that fell short in Colombia. Three machines were built and operated from the late 20’s into the mid 30’s. This model was a commission that pressed a little bit more on the skills department, as the stringer-ridden fuselage needed a viable way to be reproduced. So again a wood fuselage was created, and again the lack of vacuforming equipment of the right size prevented a copy to be made; therefore the wood shape -done slightly smaller- once carved was covered with previously-engraved skin panels. Some small parts as per photos were vacuformed with the Mattel Psychedelic Machine, and the rest was created from styrene sheet of varied thicknesses again as per images. A wood prop was made and much fun was had with the 28 struts and rigging that populate the wings and attach the floats. The two cockpits were provided with generic interiors and the decals were home-made. The fuselage and tail added up to 75 parts, the wings to 12. Floats to 18. And better stop here. A number of images is included to depict the techniques used during construction, saving me (and you) from large explanatory paragraphs. Not in the same aesthetic category as the Uruguayan seaplanes posted here before, but this one had two merits: it was a local creation and after all its clumsy lines look in a –strange- way appealing.
  7. Hi fellow modellers! This is the last model I completed. It´s Sword´s Spitfire Vc in 1/72. I have mixed feelings about this kit because it looks good but I ecountered several fit issues, mainly in the cockpit parts. Despite this it can be built into a nice model. I used Authentic Decals to represent a "presentation" aircraft, a plane donated to the RAF by a company from my country Uruguay. This very plane is restored and flying today in the same markings! I tried to follow the few historic photos I found because there are some differences with the restored one, like the wings. I hope you like it and all comments and critics are welcomed! Best regards.   8. Hi fellow modellers! Iwould like to introduce you my recently completed Cessna A-37B Dragonfly. This is a simple and straightforward kit to build. It has some fitting problems, but that´s fine. I added some Eduard PE to add a nice touch on the details. The only problem with this kit are the decals.... the worst i have ever used. i tried to improve them by painting over the silvering they left. I hope you like it and every comment is welcomed!   10. Hi fellow modellers, this is my last finished project. It´s the nice PBY-5A Catalina from Academy in 1/72. i added some extras like Eduard PE and Starfighter decals to depict the first allied airplane to land in Guadalcanal in 1942. Althought I don´t think it carried any bombs, I choose to use some on my model. Build is very straightforward. It was painted with Testors acrylics and oil washed. Smoke stains were made with pastel chalks. I hope you like it and every comment and critics are welcomed! Best regards from Uruguay! Ignacio
  11. Hi Folks, this time I introduce you my F/A-18C Hasegawa 1/72. I read several reviews of this kit and were all positive, at least the in-box reviews. When I started it was a very promising kit, althought I saw the assembly problems on the fuselage joints and the vertical fins. There was a gap of about 1 mm all along the lower join in one of the wings, the intakes had terrible fit and the quality of the main undercarraige is very poor. I actually don´t mind this too much as long as I can build it with some pleasure, but there was none... When I wet the eagle decals, these cracked in microscopic pieces.... I´ve should choose the Marines version... Anyway, this is the finished model. I used Eduard PE for the canopy and made the intake covers. The HARM missile comes from the Academy F-16C. The pre and post-shading almost went gone when matt varnished. I hope you like it and every critics/comments are welcomed. Best regards. Ignacio from Uruguay
  12. Hi everyone! This is my MIG-29 (9-12) Fulcrum of Italeri in 1/72. This was a beautiful kit to build, good fit, overall very accurate and detailed. I added some detail to it, Pavla resin interior, Eduard PE, and Authentic Decals sheet. I also added some cables to the landing gear. The scheme belongs to an "agressor" soviet squadron. I coudn´t find any information or photos of these airplanes except for one, and another model built in the ARC forums. i have to say that to be correct to this scheme, it should be a MIG-29 9-13, but I realized after finished, because the decals didn´t say anything about how to paint it or to what model belonged.   13. HI Fellow modellers! Greetings from Uruguay Today I´m introducing to you my ESCI F-100D Super Sabre. This a very old but also very accurate kit. The only things I added were an Airwaves PE and made an intake duct with epoxy to a better effect. No major issues with this kit and the decals were in excellent condition and settled very nice. These planes were painted aluminium so I did no metal variations except on the wings. I hope you like it and every critic and suggestions are welcomed. Sorry for my basic english!!!   14. Hi everyone, This time i would like to introduce you my A-1H Skyraider. The kit is the Hasegawa and is very accurate and easy to assemble. The only critics I have is that it has no good options for the ordnance. I used a Print Scale decals sheet with the Mig killer markings. I had many problems because the decals are too thin, impossible to slice without folding on themselves. The other problem with these decals is that are incorrect. for example the numbers should have 90º anlges instead of 45º and other inaccuracies. Anyway for me the result was good and I hope you like it. I´ve searched on pictures of real Skyraiders and noticed that most of the times, htey were very clean, except for the exhaust stains and some oil leaks on the underside. I used pastels and oil colours to do that. Please feel free to comment and all sugestions welcomed!!! best regards The uruguayan guy... Ignacio
  15. Hi fellow modellers! This is my first post here. For now, I only have pictures of my models finished, so it´s a kind of introduction for me. This is the old heller Su-27 UB. The kit has many fit problems, but overall is very accurate and represents well the shape and dimensions of the Flanker. I tried to make a faded look and I think the result was convincing. the only aftermarket were resin K-36 seats and metal pitot tube. I hope you like it, It was a fun build!
