  1. Out of the Box Models is crowdfunding a 1/72 3D-printed Yak-9T project; see here if interested: https://outoftheboxmodels.com/collections/crowdfunding-projects/products/crowdfunding-1-72-scale-yakovlev-yak-9t The goal is 20 preorders before the project goes ahead. John
  2. I've kind of ambled into this build, and got rather hooked on the thing, and it's been a great motivation to work up my scratch-building by way of trying to make some improvements on the 1970 tooling. A coupled of years ago I tackled the Revell Red Arrows Hawk in 1.32 and had an excellent time dealing with the plastic at this scale. I'm not a stickler for any particular scale.... some people see it as some kind of "doctrine" thing. I like a good "handy-sized" project, and a Corsair in 1.32 is in the same zone as, say, my Curtiss C46 in 1.72! Now, obviously the modern way to go for a F4U-1A at this size is to get the Tamiya product. Maybe one day I will when I'm rich and famous. I'm using a couple of builds on line of the Tamiya kit as significant reference material, and if I can get SOME of the details and corrections added to this old box of fun, then that's the mission accomplished! And I'm already £100 in pocket... So, no after-Market products - it's a bit like buying somebody else's skills because you can't be bothered.... The plan so far, is with the flaps down, wings out, control surfaces moved, and I quite fancy a well-used, dusty, coral Island based workhorse. So there's a long way to go! I'll take you back to the start and gradually bring you up to speed with where I've got to so far, which isn't that far! Might be a bit stopstart as this is a sort of holiday break from doing a bunch of Lockheed's Twins, but that's OK because the F4U has a P&W R2800 Double Wasp fitted, which is quite a tidy beast - - And the PV1 Ventura has TWO THEM!!! Now that's the kinda plane I'M talkin' about So this is all research for what I'm supposed to be doing You're welcome along, of course.....
  3. Kit manufacture: Airfix Kit N°: A02067 Scale: 1/72 Type: Hawker Hurricane Mk.I Extras used: A masking set for the camouflage from AML Paints and colours used: AK Black Primer & Microfiller; MRP-111 Cockpit Grey-Green; Tamiya Paints XF-1 Flat Black, XF-2 Flat White, XF-52 Flat Earth, XF-81 Dark Green (RAF); Vallejo Metal Colour 77.703 Dark Aluminium; Abteilung Oils; Tamiya Weathering Powders Other info: This was built for the #RAF100inscale group build ran on facebook at British Aviation In Scale, the full build can be see here on the forum Overall this was a very enjoyable build, still far from perfect there are some very apparent mistakes but I’m pretty happy with the result. I would highly recommend this kit, there are some known issues surrounding fit of the wings and the fuselage and also the thick trailing edge and the fabric effect behind the gun gun access panels which should be metallic. But in the scale I think this is the best Hurricane you can buy. 4. Hi all finally put finishing touches to my Typhoon which has been shelf sitting for a while, KUTA completed. She was built out of the box although innacurate by what we know now still an impressive model i think, only build issue was the stupid retractable masts arrangement, ended up glueing it in the up position, even in down position some masts sat above the conning tower. As expected waterline decals at aft end a major pain to get to follow contour, after taking forever on one side, second side took minutes LOL. This one was a 2002 revell re release, with waterline decals and markings, the waterline decals not seen in original 1990 release with bulbous sonar on front. So this one joins my other cold war guesswork submarines, which include the revell nautlus. All the best Chris
  5. Hello all, For my second build here on Britmodeller I have chosen something nice and easy. The 1/72 Hobby Boss F/A-18 Hornet A, the build will be straight out of the box (bar a canopy mask probably). I've always had a bit of a love hate relationship with the Hornet, I love it mainly because it's the Blue Angels bird and that scheme is one of my favourites, I hate it because it slowly replaced the F-14 Tomcat in US Navy service and the Big Cat is one of my favourite aircraft of all time. Anyway enough rambling here are the customary presentation photos. IMG_0006_zpsha5nbc7k by Neal, on Flickr Nice box art and a convient top opening box. IMG_0007_zpsrj1odkei by Neal, on Flickr Front page of the "comprehensive" instruction manual. IMG_0008_zpslwx8sltv by Neal, on Flickr A four step build, just about right for my skill level. IMG_0009_zpsomsiocjr by Neal, on Flickr I do like it when a sprue map is included. IMG_0010_zpsfi9jaafg by Neal, on Flickr Blue Angels scheme, more than likely the one I will go for. IMG_0011_zpsj2b7wh68 by Neal, on Flickr RCAF 425sqn 60 anniversary special scheme, I do really like this one too, so might be tempted and leave the Blue Angels for a later build. I'll spray that later then add the not very detailed ejection seat. I'm not bothered about the lack of detail in the cockpit, I think I will be putting a pilot in there and modelling the plan in flight if I can get round the undercarriage doors. Neal
  6. Hi guys,So I have entered a GB ran on Facebook by British Aviation In Scale, the GB is called Brit 72, really simple anything that is either British in origin or that has worn British markings.I have decided to build a Harrier as it is quintessentially British and it will start of my little collection of a model of every mark of Harrier that has flown in British service.I though that you guys may be interested to see how I get on with it.So as always here is the tradition tour of the box and its contents.Nice box art with both kits contained in the box:20170923-27.jpg by Neal, on FlickrOlder style Airfix instructions, total of 45 steps to the build:20170924-28.jpg by Neal, on Flickr20170924-29.jpg by Neal, on Flickr20170924-30.jpg by Neal, on Flickr20170924-31.jpg by Neal, on Flickr20170924-32.jpg by Neal, on Flickr20170924-33.jpg by Neal, on Flickr20170924-34.jpg by Neal, on Flickr20170924-35.jpg by Neal, on FlickrThe kits give you a lovely camouflage scheme of DG/DSG over LAG, very classy looking in my opinion. Would love to see a Typhoon in this scheme!20170924-36.jpg by Neal, on Flickr20170924-37.jpg by Neal, on FlickrThe sprue with Airfix's softer plastic, makes it easy to work with but marks easily in my experience:20170924-38.jpg by Neal, on Flickr20170924-39.jpg by Neal, on Flickr20170924-40.jpg by Neal, on Flickr20170924-41.jpg by Neal, on Flickr20170924-42.jpg by Neal, on FlickrSo that is the owners tour over and done with!I've already got a bit done on this one and I'll get that posted up here tomorrow hopefully.Neal
  7. So, I finished off the 1/700 Prince of Wales, and thought that the new Airfix Beaufighter would make a good subject. But first, a short story... Last year, my local IPMS chapter decided to run group builds on their Facebook page, in addition to the themes and group builds run within the club. Our first was a P-47 GB - as per the Britmodeller one being run this year. So far, nothing much to see here, but... Our first meeting for this year had a "Best of British' theme. Adding to that, two of our three IPMS yearly GBs have British subjects - the Airifx new release Beaufighter and the Takom Chieftain. So of course, I come over here and....hmmm It gets better. Helicopter GB scheduled for mid-Feb? - my clubs version started in Jan. "Red Storm Rising"? not far from our Russian Jets GB that ran from October last year. So - should I worry about the Britmodeller spy in my club, or just pass them this year's calendar to make it easier for them Anyway - enough Tinfoil. Given the Beau will satisfy two group builds, it made an obvious choice. Plus I love Beaufighters - I have this, plus a Matchbox TF.X, a 1/72 Hasegawa RAAF kit and the Tamiya 1/48 Mk.VI. So far I've kicked off with some interior green for the first asemblies. Our club group build specifies that it must be OOB apart from decals, so that's what it will be. Hopefully this fuselage will fit together a little better than the new Blenheim did...
  8. Hi all, heres pics of the completed stinger, its worth noting the so called lights built into the canopy, dont appear in the TV series, so contemplating getting another stinger to build minus lights with mods. All the best Chris
