  1. I've been intermittently having a go at the ancient Entex kit of the Triumph TR3, trying to make something more than a toy out of it. And I feel like I've got somewhere with it. This.... Then I was out and about yesterday and ended up coming home with this box... So I'm finding myself drawn into the car zone. In fact I've just finished a challenge in the Golden Age of Transport Group Build, the old Airfix MG K3 MAGNETTE kit which had several missing parts, namely the chassis, suspension and axles. Much scratch building and tinkering was involved before I ended up with this... So old brit Classics is the flavour of the day. 😍 I've always loved the little TR3, the era and style is just perfect for me, possibly only beaten by the TR2. The Entex kit has some serious toy-like features but the bodyshell moulding looks topclass to me. I'm seeing what I can do with the rest of it. I'll bring the build progress up to date shortly 😉 The MGB by Aoshima is a better class of kit altogether and should be a breeze to build by comparison. Seems to make sense to put them in together for a WIP. Chances are that I'll be diverted onto aviation stuff at times but this will keep all the car stuff in one place as things progress 😎
  2. After a prolonged absence I'm back at my makeshift workbench. I've managed to collect several kits of my favorite British sports cars including the postwar (1948) MG TC. I've started on one of them which is the re-issued kit by Minicraft in the 2000's. I also have two of 1970's issue Entex kits in my stash. The kit itself is a very nice with much of the mouldings still crisp with minimal flash and a few sink marks here and there. Anyway, I started with the engine. I've added a few bits based on my reference photos. I separated the various pulleys from the moulded fan belt and filed the V grooves as I will scratch build the belt at a later stage. I also made the adjustment bracket for the generator. I will modify the generator to add the drive unit in the rear. Here's the stock kit's firewall. A lot of modifications will have to be made to match my reference photos. I scribed the edges of the lids and the "X" on front of the battery box to add further definition. Scratch built one of the latches. With a bit of primer to check things. Now I just have three more to do. I turned my attention to the kit's steering wheel. I was not happy with the "toy like" appearance. I decided to try and convert it to a Brooklands style four spoke wheel. I started by stretching some sprue from the kit. I started by cutting one of the spokes, reshaping the hub and the spoke stub and added one of the wires. It's a bit nerve wracking. Finished one of the spokes. It was a constant struggle to try and keep the spacing even. I'll set this aside and allow the cement to cure. Hopefully, it will be firm enough to allow me to handle cutting the other spoke in sequence and add the next spoke. Thanks for looking.
  3. Packards are my all time favorite cars. I built this kit as a teenager and remember how the fit, finish, and level of detail was incredible to anything I built prior. This kit was purchased partially built, and think it will be a good way to hone what skills I may have retained, and learn some new ones while I jump back into modelling. Entex 1937 Packard Note the gas filler was installed upside down. Untitled Broken outriggers and bumper mounts front and rear, glue fingerprints, and a very sad looking V12. Untitled Red Sharpie makes quick work of the hubcaps and bumpers - but I needed magnifiers to do it, and have to pick out the lettering with silver. Twelves had all red on the hubcaps, the box art and instructions show to paint them with a black surround - only used on the Super Eights, which also had different bonnet side details as well. Just a bit of info that I didn't know at 14... Untitled Happy to accept advice on making that paint shine. I don't plan on clearcoating, just putting the dark blue on has been stressful enough. The radiator surround is due for another coat. Untitled
