  1. Hi Peter

Couldn't find a response to your earlier questions so firstly:

u/c bays, inside of doors and the airbrake compartments are all painted in a  yellow chromate colour

Airbrake doors are in exterior camouflage colour and the recess into which they fit is also camouflaged.

I was posted to RAF Abingdon in 1984 as a Rigger which is where we carried out mod 1114 which upgraded the aircraft to GR1a standard, the wiring of the outer pylons to accept, Phimat, An/ALQ Pods and Sidewainders was a separate mod which was embodied at the same time. There are no external indications of an aircraft being upgraded with all changes being in the cockpit and Avionics bay.

    nice progress btw

  2. Hi Roger

    She's looking great.

If you're planning on having the wing bomb cells open, the doors themselves retract into the cell not open into the airflow. The following link shows it https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SHORT-STIRLING-BOMBER-WING-BOMB-CELL-DOORS-ORIGINAL-VINTAGE-PHOTO-WW2-RAF-/203654951058?nma=true&si=9Y7KxGc0xzsfRTG8uQfoDCqABYs%3D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

    cheers

  3. Nice to see a Stirling in work.

Probably a bit late now but here's a pic of our Flightdeck in it's current form. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=stirling+project+flightdeck&sxsrf=AOaemvJzjl-HuI8zzx_V20aSi5vyZyentg:1641721706457&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj8lIj5saT1AhWyoFwKHexOA_0Q_AUoAXoECAIQAw&biw=1280&bih=577&dpr=1.5#imgrc=f8JJGkqDBzx6ZM

Early on Stirlings where Cockpit Green from the nose through to the Navigators bulkhead at Frame 9, some were hand painted black in the BA compartment though although I believe that this was pretty rare. We have parts from the nose of Mk IIIs/IVs which are still painted green though.

If you need any help, please feel free to ask

  4. No idea about other aircraft types, but the Stirling landing lamps were adjusted by a teleflex cable and handle located on the RH side of the Throttle Box.

On the MkIII, another lever lowered the landing light pneumatically through yet another lever also mounted on the throttle box; the Stirling cockpit is an ergonomic slum which you needed to have octopus arms to operate all of the various controls😮

    cheers

  5. Hi all

Mark Is had a recessed landing lamp in the L/E, whereas later marks had retractable ones. In all cases you could alter the angle of the dangle but I suspect that in the Mk 1 the angle would be more limited.

More likely it's that Shorts thought they'd like to make things even more complicated than they needed to be LOL
