Hot off the press -
I had to decide how much of the undertones to allow to show through the dark earth color. I wanted it to look on par with the highlights showing through the middle stone. I referenced some photos I took, but it still wasn't easy. After I peeled off the first piece of mask, I wasn't too happy. The dark shades on the panel lines in the middle stone did not follow through into the dark earth color. But I think I can work around that.
A little test I conducted before painting I thought I would share. Concerned about MC Leveling Thinner melting the sticky tac, I placed two small pieces in to a jar with the thinner. After a few weeks - both types of tac are holding up just fine!

If I'm really happy with the paint job, I will paint all the markings.

Final coat of clear. Yay! Sharp lines on the canopy compliments of Eduard masks.
The plastic (especially on the upper wing surfaces) has a nice texture to it - not sure if Eduard did that on purpose.
There is still a lot of work to do - lights, yellow tips on the prop., some weathering. I am on the fence about adding the aerial wire (the masts seem a lot thinner than the Academy kit)
and repainting the cannons.

Test fit ALL parts. I took the landing gear for granted and had an issue with the detail inside the red box. I'm still not sure what caused the issue, but the landing did not sit flush inside the bay. It is an easy work around, but this should have been done before paint and glue.

Small update - a light smattering of a lighter shade of my dark earth mix. Looks ugly right now, hoping it will work out!

Here is a picture of the Tamiya 1/48 Corsair I started over 15 years ago. It currently sits on the shelf of doom. I was afraid the one I am working on was going to end up next to it. Maybe completion of the 1/72 will inspire me to get back to this one?

Hey Folks,
Started another build (my fourth simultaneous). Sorry for no pictures of the cockpit, was too involved with the others. If I do anything special to a cockpit during a build, I promise pictures. I picked the kit up on Amazon when the price lowered. It was described as 'new'. When it arrived, every single bag inside was opened. Fortunately, everything was o.k.
It was a lot of work trying to keep all the details on the fuselage in front of the canopy. Kudos to all who have built a corsair. It is something to consider before building one, which I wasn't aware of. I don't think I should have taken on the challenge yet, my scribing skills are poor. Plus, this is the first time I have used my new red putty and the whole thing looked a mess. I thought it was going to end up on the shelf of doom, until I put a coat of white primer on.
Not too shabby looking after the primer. Actually I'm really happy with it so far and the build will proceed!

Excellent work and thanks for posting pictures. I am in the middle of one and finding it hard to keep the details on the front fuselage. Did you have to fill in the step hole in the port wing flap??

Sorry for the slow updates, I am back to work and have 4 builds simultaneously
I know it may not look like much, but this is the finest coat of paint I have ever sprayed. My own mix of MRP Middle Stone and Sand

Thank you!

I've been putting that kit off over fear of trying to airbrush metallic paints.
Maybe you can inspire me 😉

The color is my own version of Azure Blue, which is basically Mr Paint Azure Blue + Insignia White
I'm finally gaining a little confidence in spraying gloss clear coats. I will probably give this until next weekend to 'cure'. Then on to the top coat of middle stone on the upper surfaces.

pictures are not working for me
I'm working on the 1/72 version, so I will check in frequently!

Another build started while waiting for the clear coat to dry on my Hellcat. Sorry no pictures during the main building time.

Are the raised bars circled in red an error? or a particular wing type?

With the Spitfire MK IX almost done, I had some time to spend on this project. Main top coat and USS Hancock marking added. It will be another 'wif'.

I went from working 12 hour days to not working at all. I spent a lot of time practicing with my camera and picked up 2 more lenses.
Got some work done on the Spitfire. Shouldn't take too much longer, although I'm in no rush and have other models mid-build. Plus extra cure time for clear coats is a good thing.
Stay safe everyone.

Decals used to be fun when I was a child. The 'stickers' were fun to apply and added a lot of detail quickly.
Applying decals today scare me!
Reasons - 1.they are done when painting is almost complete and I don't want to have to redo any painting 2.I don't know how to remove them if things go wrong.
The decals were gifted to me by a fellow builder here Reini78 - thank you once again 🙂
I am building a 'what if', I have to, with my failed color mixing.
The decals are by AML and are very thin compared to the Academy decals I started off with my Hellcat builds.
I was thinking about adding a number but I have a blue '2' which looks awesome, but I feel is too distinctive of a certain Spitfire that actually existed. I am now mulling over cutting the '56' decals I have and making the plane number 5 or 6. The only thing stopping me is that the '56' decals are white, and it will not match the white paint on the tail of the plane.
So here it is so far,,, it looks better in real life - the decals are into the panel lines but for some reason they look flat in this picture.
As a side note - I picked a new lens, soft light and umbrellas. My modelling hobby has also sparked my interest in photography.
The colors in this picture are closer to the actual colors.

Hasegawa MK IXc Spitfire 1/48 Lend Lease
in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Posted
Another 'wif' assembled in the middle of other builds. I was inspired by an artist's picture of a lend-lease Spitfire which I mistakenly thought had a top coat of white and Russian green (black paint on top of green paint). Halfway through the top coat, I sort of changed my mind and tried to darken the grey. The decals were gifted to me by a fellow builder here Reini78 - thank you once again!
