  1. I don't know. They gave me 8 but only showed 6 in place.
  2. So today was sunny and in the 60's so I took some pics on the deck. I am not sure they are an improvement so I only replaced a few, but here are the rest
  3. Thanks for encouraging me to do so Planel Models XF-91 Thunderceptor. Tri-motor? There must be a story behind that. Thanks
  4. The kit parts aren't too bad. These are mainly if you want to lower the elevators.
  5. Except in rare cases I just can't bring myself to weather something I worked so hard on to make as perfect as I can Use them well, as my Mother used to say. I still have the tail surfaces, except the central fin, if anyone is interested in them.
  6. There have been a few, but I haven't seen one in Navy colors, most are Air Force. Thanks
  7. It is an interesting derivation of the F-84 with reverse taper swept wings. They are thinner in chord and camber at the root then at the tip, and the wheels fold outwards into the tips
  8. Yesterday I gave it a final coat of Alclad Light Sheen, attached the wheels and unmasked all the windows. I was expecting a problem with the rear cockpit window since I thought I might have sanded them away, but they turned out to be fine. Unfortunatley I was not expecting this or at least not to this extent. So that set me back a day to do repairs. not perfect but acceptable to me. So after 22 days and 67 picture it is now complete Thank you to everyone who watched, and offered suggestions and encouragement. I am sure it came out better for all of them then it would have if I had not done this WIP. More pictures at the RFI at
  9. This is my rendition of Heller's Lockheed EC-121/WV-2 Warning Star. Heller is not what I would consider one of the top tier model companies and there were a lot of inaccuracies. To address these I used; Fisher Models' nose and radomes, Plus Models' engine nacelles, wheel wells, tires and tail surfaces, and Caracal decals. Actually I only used the Plus Models central fin from their tail surfaces kit. Given its size and all the aftermarket total build time was 22 day or probably around 60 hours. For more details on the build see the WIP at With that let's see the results. Next up is the Planet Models' XF-91 Thunderceptor Enjoy.
  10. 3 weeks so far, a little above my average I think you could get away without one, but I want to dull the overall shine.
  11. The props are on, they just needed some touch up of the red stripes. The wheels will go on tomorrow after it gets a final coat of Light Sheen. I don't want the tires to be shiny. The windows, that will be the final issue. The fuselage windows are all masked and not an issue. The rear cockpit windows are going to be a problem. I am afraid that in all the sanding I did on the nose that I encroached on they a bit. They will need to be polished back to clear and given a coat of future. We will see how things go tomorrow with them. Whenever someone asks what is my favorite model I always say "the one I just finished".
  12. Decals can make or break a project and these Caracal ones certainly did no harm and were a pleasure to work with: Sorry for the graininess of the pictures, but it is a dark rainy day here and this plane is so big I have to close down the aperture all the way to get the best depth of fields and get everything in focus. I hope to get it finished tomorrow, but it may not be until Saturday. Back then
  13. I was sitting at my computer and looked across the room at my work table and thought "that would make a great picture". Thanks
  14. Shiny Due to a stupid mistake while removing the masking it took an extra day to get it ready, but it now has it's first coat of gloss. One more coat tomorrow and then decals on Thursday.
  15. In reality it is literally a dust magnet
  16. I removed all of the masking with only the minor damage described above. This morning I repaired said damage, and installed the gear doors. Here is how it looks so far Today will be for touch up and minor detail painting. Back when the decals are on.
  17. So far in removing the masking I broke of 1 antenna, 1 pitot tube, and through simple clumsiness the rear tip of one of the tip tanks. But I haven't dropped it yet. 😌 All easily repairable. I'll post pictures tomorrow. I have been using the Light Sheen for a few years now, and am happy with the results. The only issue I have is that it seems to remain slightly tacky forever.
  18. Another advantage of using quick drying lacquer
  19. If it had been zinc chromate I probably would have brushed it. But white is such a problem. It would have taken several coats, left brush strokes and obscured details. As it is I used the Tamiya White Fine Surface Primer from a jar, I gave it a light dry coat yesterday and another heavier one today and it is done. Since it is a quick drying lacquer I probably could have done both coats yesterday. Now I just need to remove the mask, do and minor repairs tomorrow, give it 2 coats of gloss Monday and Tuesday, decal Wednesday and finish with a coat of Alclad Light Sheen Thursday and it is done.
  20. Neither can I, but I have to be patient
  21. I find that removing all the tape and revealing all the colors to be one of the most fun parts of a build.
  22. I think I have enough masking on it I don't usually use blue painter's tape for masking because It doesn't stick to itself so all overlap have to be reinforced with Tamiya tape and It stick to well to the model so taking it off risks breaking something but it is a lot cheaper than the Tamiya tape and with such a large area to cover I didn't want to waste the Tamiya tape. It probably will take a couple days to get the white right, so back then.
  23. Given all the PE and little delicate bits in them I didn't think I could do a good masking of them without damaging things. This way will be easier, but it will take a lot of tape. I might wrap most of it with paper towl and just tape around the wells.
