Superb, as others have said. A lot of thought and work has gone into this and it shows.

Brilliant. I love what you did with the paint finish to get the level of fade and wear, and the cockpit detail is very well done.

Really nice work. The camo is excellent and I agree that figures do add something, especially in an open fighting compartment such as here.
Thanks IanC.
My figures are nowhere near as good as the ones you did for your Wespe.....I'll keep trying though.

Hi Tojo
Thanks, the figures don't look so shiny under normal conditions......I had 3 lamps on them for the photos, enough to make anything shine. I know what you mean though, thanks
The insignia was hand painted. I bought a fine Tamiya brush for this job, and also I made a wet pallette for the paint. A steady hand wasn't so easy to come by though.......but I think I got there in the end.

Greetings and Salutations.
Wow, it's been something like 18 months since my last RFI......doesn't time fly! Let's just say models haven't been a priority in my life during this period, however, I've kept chipping away slowly as time and motivation have permitted and I think I'm almost back into it. I'll post my other couple of builds from the 'dark ages' as I get time.....don't panic there aren't too many.
So here we have Tamiya's 1/35 Wespe, Italian Front. No real issues with this build, and I've actually included the figures this time. I used to be dead against including figures as I'm never happy with them....they need more art skills that I can muster to look acceptable in my eye. However, they do add a bit of scale and feel to the subject so I'll persevere. I might even put some grass under it one day.
Comments good, bad or indifferent welcome noting that I'm no armour expert; I'm taking the 80% approach to accuracy (given that I don't know what 100% looks like then I can't lose). Straight out of the box.
Eyes down, look in.......enjoy.
Cheers

I feel your pain. I lost my mojo nearly 2 years ago while battling this kit and paint.
It looks great, you've done really well.

Very nice indeed.
The red and white scheme; once a common sight over hills an valleys of North and Mid Wales. Good times.
Well done.

Hmm, Bronco's got a couple of interesting subjects that Ive been looking at (this, Bishop, Staghound, Diana etc) but sadly I don't have much time for extended, fiddly builds at the moment
That being said, I'm glad you've persevered with this one, it's finished up great. And so you've probably convinced me to pick one up anyway 🙂
Nice work.

Hi Garry, welcome to the forum from another ex-pat, there's a couple of us hanging around here.
I try and get a visit to Acorn Models booked every time I'm down Chch way. I could spend hours in there....(and the Ducati dealer next door), if I weren't usually being escorted by SWMBO. At least she doesn't let me leave empty handed.
Anyhoo, there's plenty of knowledgeable rabbits around here who can help you navigate down that hole.
Have fun and enjoy.Cheers

Great looking JP! I often wondered why 1 TWU had some of these with their Hawks, but not 2 TWU at Chivenor. Never did find out, though weren’t they used for training forward air controllers? Must have been great at Brawdy in those days with Hunters there too.
Yup, JAFACTSU (Joint Forward Air Controller Training and Standards Unit) was at Brawdy giving trainees a pilot's eye view with these JPs.
I was on the JP flight line (aka VASS) for a while until they were retired.
Nice build and thanks for the memories

I always liked this bold colour scheme and once painted my RD350YPVS the same.
Love your photography too.

Hi Mike here you go.
The measurements on the rule in the picture below show 102 and 149mm from the CL of the front axle to the rear 2, but when measured directly between the axles underneath with a vernier it came out at 101 and 148mm.
Not sure if this helps at all, a bit of paralax error.
Lateral measurement from outside of one chassis rail to the other is 25mm.
Total length from front face of front bumper to rear face of chassis (where tow hook is mounted) 210mm.
Sorry, I don't have any pictures of the interior but it's pretty basic inside. The Tamiya instructions available through the scalemates website link are pretty good, and this chap might have some useful pictures for you.

Hi Mike
I've got this beast on the go at the moment; the 1/35th Tamiya version if it's any use.
Let me know what you need and I'll see what I can do.

Fantastic, both of them. So much detail, it'd take me years to finish each one......I don't think I'd have your level of patience.
Well done

Thanks Dave and most certainly Steve was the key player behind this model.
Thanks Gaz,.... well there you go,.... small world eh,.... I hadn`t realised the Dak went on to become a target tug. Is your model posted on Britmodeller?
Yup, this one. NZ3546 from a few years ago.
I'm doing a bit of a catch up.....your Kiwi build count is just about the same as the number of aircraft we currently fly . Love the Catalinas as well.

Hi Tony, lovely job on the old girl, and a scheme I haven't seen before. Once more you're giving me ideas .
As it happens the 1/48 version I built a few years ago (doesn't time fly!) was also of 3546 as it was in later life as a target tug.
Well done

I have mine ready for painting and it was a very nice build so far.
No. 112 Squadron markings are really a "must" when it comes to the P-40.

Hey thanks guys.
Between one thing and another I've not been around much the lately, so to log in so soon after your comments were submitted was a nice coincidence and they're very welcome as I try and reinflate my somewhat shrunken mojo.
Good luck with your builds

Hi Calum.
I've been using your sites myself the last week or two for my own post-Kahu kit conversion, and they'll be my go-to references for my T-bird and pre-Kahu as well. They've been an absolute goldmine (even for someone who used to work down the Italian end of 4 hanger! ). Many thanks for taking the time to put them together and sharing your knowledge. Thoroughly recommended.
