I was surprised to see how much oil was flung everywhere by the crude chain drive lubricating system.  Basically, oil is literally poured onto the chain from time to time from the little tanks.  And then flung off as the chains rotated.  The small object in front of the tank are lubricators for other parts.

Yeah it's a pretty crude system isn't it.  I remember seeing those drip feed pipes coming from the bottom of the tank and did consider scratching them, but it was a bit late in the day.  I figured there was enough other detail to look at anyway.

Hmm, actually it should be pretty easy to replicate those splashes.  Thanks.

    Hi Gaz,

It looks great, and at least when you remove the turrets, you can see a lot of the interior, so it's not a waste of work... The photo next to the Cromwell is a very good idea, it gives an idea of its size. Perhaps with a "leg cut" the driver would have fit? I don't know if it would be seen once in its place...

    Cheers and TC

    Francis.👍

    Thanks Francis.

I couldn't get any of the poor driver to fit without some serious Steve Austin type major deconstruction and rebuilding, and the potential to damage some interior bits and bobs while I was at it........but then I went ahead and did it anyway on the outside.  So I was either going to throw him in the spares box never to see the light of day again, or I could at least make an attempt at using him and learn something in the process. So I chopped him up and rebuilt him in the pose he's got now. He recovered well from the surgery and I've gained a bit more experience and courage in doing figures, so win/win. And I notice in the photos an repair on his left shoulder that I hadn't finished, but all done now. :D

    Cheers

Nicely done. The light weathering looks good. Keep churning out the AFV's.....you know it makes sense.

    John.

Thanks John. Haha yeah, thanks. I've got a couple more to post and a couple more in the wings. Maybe the bug is biting. The last time I did a lot of armour stuff they cost 90p and were either Matchbox or Airfix from the Post Office across the road. I might have to compromise :)

    Hi Gaz,

I think you can be proud of the result, very nice. I've also thought about buying a Dragon Truck, without the wagon to begin with, but the price and then the size, together with a stash of steroids, I give up...for now...lol The figures...ah...what a headache...I can't get anything decent for my taste...damn!

    Cheers and TC

    Francis.👍

Thanks Francis. Event the truck by itself is an impressive piece of work and is sufficiently 'different' to make an impressive subject.  I'd like to say this model came pretty cheap because my son bought it for me as a Christmas present, but on the other hand I had to house, water and feed him for 18 years to get to this stage.  That wasn't cheap, but a good investment nontheless . With figure, I learned to lower my expectations.......and even the I still struggle. Hopefully I'm getting there (just like British Rail............who?).

That's a really nice build. I love the subtlety of your weathering, it's really believable. Little details are where it really stands out for me, like the rubber? plates under the folded up ramps, and the stowage on the Sherman. Very fine work indeed. I'd also love to have a dragon wagon, it's so unique in its appearance, but I'm tempted to go for the recovery vehicle.

Thanks, I think subtle is my default setting no matter how hard I try. Yeah agreed, the recovery vehicle on its own would make an interesting subject and I do keep looking at the Scammell Pioneer in this light as well. Which one to go for? Hmm.....

What they said. And thanks for building it so well for me. For now, please just hang on to it, would you? Ta.

Thanks Pete, you're welcome.  I'll make sure it gets Daily Inspection, and that scheduled regular dusting requirements are attended to........though not by my wife........she breaks things!

  5. Hello again, catchup No2 for the day.

This project ran from Feb to May 22.

As I'm still not fully into doing armour subjects and I only have a handfull of builds, I'm sort of focussed on building subjects that are a bit different from each other and interesting to look at in the cabinet. The AEC MkIII seemed to fit the bill perfectly.

This was my first MiniArt kit, and my first interior build. To be honest, I struggled with the idea of spending ages doing the interior for it all to be hidden away but I would have felt like I cheated if I didn't use it. There were lots of parts, and lots of very small parts. I broke a few of the smaller pieces with my trusty old lecky snips but was forced to go out and buy a pair of Tamiya sharp pointed side cutters......wow, I wish I'd got some years ago; they're great.

It was frustrating at times but worth the effort I reckon.

    Here we go....

I couldn't get the driver to fit in his seat so I've got him waiting for some fuel instead.

Another raw attempt at figure painting.

The normally hidden depths of the interior.

It's a surprisingly big old beast. Here's an Airfix Cromwell for comparison.

There ya go, my collection grows a little more.

    Cheers.

    Greetings All

Back again with another effort to getting back into the swing of things.

This project ran from June to Sept 2021.  I had this idea that I'd get one of these, a Famo, and a Scammell and each time I finish a vehicle then I'd place it on the appropriate transporter for display until the next one is finished. This is as far as I've got for now.

Typical Tamiya fare, both nice easy builds except that there's a lot of parts and deciding the order of paint and assembly got me in a twist a few times......oh, and it's a bit longish.

Apologies for the many photos, but like I say, it's big.
    I hope you like it.

I had to place it on a log of wood just to be able to move it without breaking it.  One day I'm hoping to try my hand at a bit of static grassing on the base to make it a little more interesting, but my fear is that I'll end up doing more bases (like I am now with figures)......and that I'll never get back to my stash of aircraft kits

    spacer.png

I left the trailer decoupled so that I didn't hide the detail at the back of the tractor.  I see that the shoe has tilted over into the wrong position and the wheel grapples hidden......I rushed the photos a bit.

Of course, after finishing the transporter I was duty bound to put something on the back of it.

  7. Woohoo......good to see another one built.  It can be a painful process but well worth the effort aye. Did you spend lots of time straightening various pieces out with boiling water?  And I agree about the windscreen area being a pain...I'm going through the same drama again with their Belfast right now.

Great build of a great aircraft.

    Cheers

    Thank you!

Well I did start a scratch idea for a VC-10.  The fuselage is just a bit bigger than a Pringles tube as it turns out!  Just don’t get the time.  80s is just the way I remember them so that’s the way I like to see them.

    Same here, good times.

And I remember thinking that the VC10 tailplane was bigger than the mainplane of a Jaguar when I first encountered one......a bit on the large side you could say.

That's a great model, and well done for making a really good job of the urban cammo scheme. If you don't mind one small bit of criticism. It's very very clean. Even a new one would have a little bit of dust here and there. Maybe a light wash to get into the nooks and crannies.

Get my vote just for having the cojones to tackle masking it.

Have to agree with previous post, it does look a little "dazzling". As you stated, the back ends got covered in crud just from the exhaust smoke and everything else got dusty and grimy. Tankies usually have better things to do than clean a vehicle.

    Pete

    Thanks Fellas.

Honestly, it's actually dirtier in real life than it looks in the pictures.  But yeah, I think you're right; I'll bring it home and give it a bit more of an in-use look, particularly around the derriere.

    Cheers

Research always takes hours of my time as well particularly cross checking when using the internet - there’s some funny things out there!

    Thanks Nick.

Yeah this time I went a bit OTT, it turned into a bit of an obsession to be honest.  It took the joy out of it, which kind of defeats the object of a hobby aye.  It was a good reality check in the end and proved a good time to rethink my priorities.

I could have put in a diorama.........but you wouldn't see any of the back end for the engine smoke
