Just something i'd like to share with you.
I do talks on WW2 Aviation history for the U3A ( University of the Third Age ). As part of this i found and managed to contact one of the last remaining D-Day veterans. Pvt Mervyn KERSH . RAOC . He is 98 years old ( young) and landed on Gold Beach D Day + 5.
After exchanging a fair few emails with him he agreed to meet me so I could interview him. I spent some 5 hours with him, just chatting in general and also asking him some specific questions. I went to Normandy in May to see if I could track down the exact part of the beach he landed at and also a specific French country house he requisitioned for a ROAC Vehicle Park. He was sent as a forward Recce party to do this.
He's quite famous and goes to schools to talk about his experiences.
An amazing 5 hours spent in the company of a modest and brave man
