The first half of my modelling year has been pretty badly disrupted with a few builds on the go when I broke my wrist that haven't been finished, because pretty much as soon as I'd recovered I went overseas for a month. Now that I'm back, jet lagged and in need of something simple to build to kick things off again I've chosen the Karaya Alitalia boxing of the Hasegawa 1/144 Embraer 170. Here's what's in the box, plus a small taste of the state of my workbench: A pretty simple little kit. Neatly engraved lines, no windows to worry about (there are decals for that), nice looking decal sheet with options for Alitalia and Finnair, and a nut and bolt provided for ballast. One pet peeve is moulded-on aerials, bound to break one or two of these off during the build, but the kit includes spares for when that happens. I started by assembling the fuselage and wings: Tiny amounts of filler needed, apart from that they went together fine. Might as well attach the wings to the fuselage: Tiny amounts of filler needed again, just to deal with a couple of small gaps at the leading edge of the wing root. A little bit of work with the sanding stick will be needed for the fairing, mainly behind the wing, but not too bad. I'll be painting this before long. thanks for looking Julian

Here's my 1/144 Embraer 170, from a Karaya boxing of the Hasegawa kit. Nice little kit to get the mojo going. Decals were nice (Finnair decals were also included) but had a few inaccuracies - for example, the Alitalia Express titles were also closer to 1/72 than 1/144 which meant the ones that were supposed to go on the engine nacelles went on the fuselage, and there was nothing suitable for the nacelles. The Alitalia titles should also be black, not green. But overall I can overlook these small deficiencies, and I'm pretty happy with this one. thanks for looking Julian

I'm going to start with the NAMC in 1/144 using the Hasegawa kit: Nice looking kit, not a lot of parts, should go together pretty quickly. A nice touch is that the kit includes ballast for the nose. I bought the kit from a seller on Facebook and was surprised to find two aftermarket decal sheets in the box so I've got a choice of kit decals for the first production aircraft or Avigraphics decals for either Mid Pacific Air or American Eagle. I think it's going to be American Eagle. looking forward to getting started tomorrow Julian
