  1. Although that pic also shows European roundels. As far as I know 1830 NAS served exclusively in the Pacific (although amongst Albert's medals is the Atlantic Star, presumably from training in the US)
  2. The 7 code is for 1830 NAS, 6 is 1833 NAS. The deck pics give a good idea of how the aircraft looked at the time. Any ideas on how to do the over painted roundels? There's a clear colour contrast, would that be down to the difference between RN paint and the original US finish? I have some small blue and white roundels from a Hurricane build, not sure they would be big enough but worth a look. Albert Brown is 4th from left in the bottom picture. I have some others taken 24/1/45 when he was KIA during Op Meridian. Very poignant.

  4. OrHi all, I have a 1/72 Hasegawa Corsair F4U in the stash and would like to present it as an aircraft I know a relative to have flown (1830 NAS aboard HMS Illustrious). I've seen a number of aftermarket decals but while period correct, none of them are from the squadron or even ship. Does anyone have any tips on how to recreate a specific aircraft without it costing a fortune? I don't have the skills to be airbrushing stencils or creating my own decal sets. As an aside, when did the FAA move from the red and blue roundels to the blue and white SEAC? There is a specific date when he shot down a Zero so I'd like to be spot on with it
