Hi Folks,
It's been a while since my last posting on here, so I will go straight into what Atlantic Models released in 2022.
To start the year HMS Badsworth ATK35071 a Hunt Type2 Destroyer was released after which a 1/700 scale Type 23 Frigate detail set was probably the PE release for the year.
Things slowed down after that because of domestic and family commitments , but the patterns for HMS Jutland the 1943 Battle Class Destroyer were completed and sent for casting.
Before the summer break the patterns for HMS Severn were completed and sent for casting. Much interest in this subject had been generated after my invitation to visit the ship in Portsmouth generated a great wealth of photos of little seen nooks and crannies. Thanks to Cdr Phil Harper for his hospitality and help. The HMS Severn kit has now been released in time for Christmas. HMS Jutland made it to the shelves in September and is available also.
A small project that came along was more in the hands of my son Chris as he has been getting used to 3D printing and supplying me with some small bits and pieces. He had a go at the Archer class P2000 patrol craft, and as a result we have an addition to the Narrow Seas Range. HMS Archer in 1/350 scale is small but nicely formed.
A lot of time was spent having to re organise supplies of photo etched parts, following the demise of Photo Etch Consultants in August. They had been my main suppliers for many years and had been a great help in developing a lot of the more awkward sets that I had released. It was a few weeks of uncertainty that followed but a new supplier has been found for Atlantic Models and White Ensign Models photo etched sets. So it hopefully back to normality now and the New Year plan is to get down to completing the projects in both photo etched details and ship kits.
1. HMS Tynedale the Type 1 Hunt Class Destroyer.
2. HMS Forth the Batch 2 River class OPV to follow up the HMS Severn kit.
3. HMS Edinburgh the Batch 3 Type 42 Destroyer.
4. 1/700 scale PE Sets for the Invincible class Carriers, Type 45 Destroyer and Type 42 Destroyer.
Anything else will be if I have any year left
All the best

Hello Again Folks.
It's been a while since I last updated this forum page, but I haven't been idle during the time I have been quiet. Whilst avoiding the Covid anomaly I used the time to get down to producing more kit patterns and have been the most productive in the past year that I have been so far. 2021 saw the release of no less than four new kits. It would have been five but for delays in getting the photo etch produced. Again Covid caused.
First off the line was ATK 35018 HMS Brave . This is the fourth and last kit in the Type 22 Frigate family in 1/350 scale and became available early on in the year.
Then a new family of 1/350 scale Frigates, the Type 12s, which began with ATK 35022 HMS Torquay going back into the 1950s era of ships, followed quickly by ATK 35023 HMS Rothesay a Type 12M variant. Later in the year, these were followed by the Modernised version of the Type 12M in ATK 35024 HMS Yarmouth that completed the trio. These three ship kits also can be used to build not only all of the RN ships of the classes, but also most of the Commonwealth Navies ships of the class too, as provision has been made by including extra parts and decals for all.
The latest kit release, however has been an addition to the White Ensign Range of WW2 vessels. I had only been doing some upgrades to the existing kits in the range up until now, but this one is all new and looks to be popular. ATK 35071 HMS Badsworth is a Type 2 Hunt Class Escort Destroyer. It is the first of two or three ships of the class, depending on demand, but will be followed this year by the Type 1 Hunt HMS Tynedale. Both again in 1/350 scale. HMS Badsworth is now available
Other additions to the Atlantic Models products include the Type 23 Frigate Sea Ceptor Upgrade set in 1/350. This is designed to fit the Trumpeter Type 23 Frigate kits and includes the Sea Ceptor silo, Artisan Radar and a Wildcat Helicopter to name but a few items. This is available as ATAC 35022
Photo etched detail sets have been added to with ATEM 60016 HMS Victorious Detail Set and ATEM 60017 HMS Victorious Air Wing Fittings. Recently ATEM 60019 HMS Belfast Detail Set has also become available.
On the Decal side of things, I couldn't provide upgrades for the Type 23 Frigates in 1/350 without producing a decal sheet that covers all the ships of the class. The decals include the pennant numbers, names and funnel badges as well as the deck markings for the flight deck. Trumpeter had only provided the decals for the ships that they had named their kits for, but as the kits were all the same anyway, why not be able to make the whole class!?
Please check out the main website, www.atlanticmodels.net for more more info and images of the new kits and accessories. Thanks for your support.

Hello George, Sorry It has taken so long to reply. I have had access problems to BM.
Can you e.mail me at [email protected] and I will send you a photo of the offending item on the actual ship.

Hi Everyone,
I thought it about time that some news about what has been happening at Atlantic Models should be forthcoming. My apologies for not being lax and not bringing in the updates as they happen.
First, I will start with the most recent additions to the Narrow Seas Range. I have been gradually refitting the former WEM patterns and replacing the Photo Etched parts sets in a lot of the kits.
I have now completed the British Vosper and Faimile D MTBs and MGBs with the first four, Vosper 70' MTB 57, Vosper 73' MTB 379, Fairmile D MGB 660 and Fairmile D MTB794 being now available.
These can be viewed in the Narrow Seas Range section of the main website.
It is now 70 years since HMS Amethyst was involved in what has become known as the Yangtse Incident which culminated in her night time escape from under noses of the PLA forces in July 1949 after being held captive in the river for 3 months.
I now have a kit of HMS Amethyst (Black Swan class Frigate) available in 1/350 scale as ATK 35014 in the Cold War Range of kits. There is also HMS Consort ATK 35013 a CO Class Destroyer which bravely attempted to tow the Amethyst from the mud bank, when she grounded after the initial attack.
Recent additions to the Photo Etch range are the 1/600 scale detail sets for HMS Fearless ATEM 60012 which also cover her sister ship Intrepid and will fit the 1960s era Airfix kit. The HMS Daring detail set ATEM 60013 helps to enhance the 1950s vintage Airfix kit.
Something a bit different is the set of Merchant Ship and Ocean Liner Railings and Ladders set in 1/600 scale, specially designed for the 1/600 scale Airfix and 1/570 scale Revell kits. This is a comparatively large set for large ships.
In 1/500 Scale is the HMS Royall Sovereign detail set ATEM 50008 that is designed to fit the original FROG kit that has been reincarnated many times since under various names. This set gives extra parts to assist modelling the other Battleships of the R class.
Well that's all for now folks. I will hopefully keep up with the updates in the future and make sure you are informed of anything new as it comes along.
All the best

After a long wait for various sections of production to yield the goodies, I am now happy to announce the release of the Type 42 Destroyer in 1/350 scale.
The kit comes in the usual Atlantic Models format with the main parts being resin, smaller more brittle parts in white metal and of course the details in photo etched brass.
The hull is divided at the waterline, so it is easy to build the model either full hull or in a seascape diorama, without having to cut and chop large chunks of resin about.
The kit also comes with printed instructions now, (the geniuses have decided to delete the CD ROM drives from computers) and also a set of decals that will allow any one of the late fit Batch 1 or2 ships to be built.
See my website for more details.

Hi Folks,
I have had deliveries of kits and photo etch this week, so when they have been sorted out, there will be more former White Ensign kits available.
The Flower class Corvettes in 1/700 scale along with the HMS Starling will be put up on the website shortly.
Also the 1/350 HMS Montgomery kit will be available again by the end of the week.

With thanks to Shar2 for such a great review of the HMS Arrow kit, I can now say that the kit is now available on general release.
It has been a long time coming since the patterns went for casting and I must say thanks to all those who have been waiting patiently for this kit.
I have been packing and posting, so all the pre orders are now on their way to those of you who have ordered one.
Thanks folks.
Next will be the Type 42 in the Cold War range in a few months.

I asked Richard the same thing Chris over on another forum this morning.
You need to get those back over here too Peter!
The problem with the smaller accessories is that the patterns are scattered far and wide, so it would take a lot of chasing round to get any stock back together. Add to that, I went down the Shapeways lists and found that a large amount of the items are now being 3D printed to order, which will make casting large quantities for stock a non starter from my point of view anyway.

The big news for the week from Atlantic Models is that I have ben in discussion with Richard Harden at Tom's Modelworks and we have agreed to transfer all of the former WEM kits in 1/350 and 1/700 scales to Atlantic Models for release in a new White Ensign range, under the Atlantic Models umbrella. This will also include the Narrow Seas range of kits and the 1/72 and 1/144 scale accessories for the submarines and Coastal Craft. It will be a lot easier to get the kits produced and made available now as the time limits caused by shipping things to and from the USA will not be an issue.
Things have started off with the arrival of the samples for the HMS Scorpion and HMS Vigilant kits in 1/350 which will hopefully be ready for release by August.

Looking forward to the Hurworth, I picked up one of the last batch WEM did and I'm in the process of building her as Atherstone. Any news on what updates the new kit will include? Will the etch/decals be available separately to update the old kits?
The short answer is yes on both counts. Send me an e.mail and I can get you fixed up with the what you need. They are available now.

Ok so it's a separate small set for the aircraft parts. Plus maintenance ladders, jacks, maybe a Mk12 Hydraulic rig or two, and a few other bits of goodies.
As for the backdating set, I was thinking that I could do the PE and Sea Dart parts all in together, but it would only take it back to the post 1990 refit era. It would be a major overhaul to get it back to the as fitted state.
Thanks for all the input. And thanks to Chris for his stunning model of Illustrious.

Hi Folks, It's question time again.
I am progressing well with the HMS Illustrious 1/350 scale details, which will include most of the original items I did for the WEM set but NOT the backdating parts such as the early catwalks and mast arrays. There will be a lot of new stuff added such as extra details for the superstructure, weatherdecks and flight deck areas, boats and handling gear. I am aiming to get the whole lot onto one sheet, which will be quite big, but still keeping the price down to around £35 to £40 if at all possible. The question is !!! ..... Do I try to include the aircraft details in this set or keep them on a separate smaller sheet, so that the supplementary set from Airfix, (if it is still availbalbe) is covered. ??

The instructions with the PE set will be in the same step by step format that is in the kits. Much the same as those I did for the WEM PE sets.

Thanks for the input on this subject. I have addressed as many of the points as I can and included a new Mezanine deck for the hangar as well as the overhead gantry crane and refueling hose drum. The access ladders to the mezanine have also been re done as well as the framework for the hangar roof. The ladder set and rail on top of the 4.5" gun is now in there as well as gun shields for the MG's.
The aerials on the radome ball are actually lightning conductors or static shield of some type. There are also four more on the corners of the mast just below the dome. I'm not quite sure if etch is the answer here as they are just straight wire poles. Maybe a drilling template to position the holes for wire or stretched sprue aerials to be inserted in the dome would work.?
The anchors or should I say the incorrect positioning of them on the Airfix kit would be better served with a diagram rather than a template, so I will add that to the instruction sheets.

First my thanks to Dave for such an extensive and thorough review. And a great one too. Thanks for your time Dave.
I am having to be careful with some of the more recent RN ships like the Batch 3 Type 22. Orange Hobby keep on threatening to do one, and then not and then again they might. I would hate to clash with them on a release at the same time, when we could have done other things. I do have Batch 1 and 2 Type 22s in the pipeline, but they will be further down the line.

The answer to that is easy, I have a new set of RN Doors and Hatches, as well as a generic set of RN style Railings and Ladders in 1/350 scale. These will be going to the etchers this side of Christmas as priority as they are generic items.
I have also solved the problem of the lack of the Mk 8 Mod1 turret. A new pattern will be going to the caster on Monday so it will appear as a new item in the accessory list on the Atlantic Models website shortly. It won't be available immediately as the caster takes time to process my order through the system, but there is nothing to stop anyone putting in pre orders for it by my e.mail.

In answer to the last two questions, I would dearly like the Kryton Turret pattern to come back into the fold as it was a real b*$£@r to make in the first place. But there is a problem as the turret was also part of the Type 45 ship pattern so I would have to get back the whole thing and not just the turret. Time will sort that one out. And I am also looking at a sollution as we speak. Hang in there.
As for the aviation stuff. Yes I did do the 1/72 scale PE and resin bits for things like the heavy bombers and flying boats. And one or two smaller ones two (Kingfisher and Devastator) I had only just finished the Hellcat set and sent it in. Gone out of my hands unfortunately.
I will be looking at all of the possibilities over the next few weeks, and as things become clearer as to what will happen to the WEM product base, I will add to my Atlantic Models range as needed.
All the best

Hi Folks,
Thanks for all the support you have been giving me on the expansion plans for Atlantic Models. The new website www.atlanticmodels.net is now up and running and things are starting to come together.
One of the projects I have in hand is to release new sets of PE for the Modern Royal naval kits that are currently available in 1/350 scale. HMS Illustrious and HMS Daring by Airfix and the Type 23 Frigate in various boxings by Trumpeter. The PE Sets for the HMS Illustrious kit will be broken down into smaller section from that which has been available from WEM. The new set will be to fit out the kit as HMS Illustrious as portrayed.
Then there will be a backdate set using the other parts to make up the model as it would have been after the first big refit in the early 90s. This will go hand in hand with the resin Sea Dart set I already have available.
The HMS Daring PE set will just be an updated version of the WEM set if that is possible. The same with the Type 23.
As for the rest of the plan to move forward, things will take time, I can't do it all at once, but hopefully over the next few months you will notice more things becoming available as I expand the range. I will be tackling the other scales as well, so the Brit Ship Modellers will have some thing to go at soon.
Cheers

Thanks for all your help here. I have now been able to complete the task in hand.
As a point of interest. I have come by a photo of Ajax's Wasp with the side number 460. Perhaps this was assigned to it before the ship went into refit for conversion to Ikara.??

Can anyone who served around Wasp ships flights remember what the side numbers for the cabs belonging to HMS Dido, Ajax and Arethusa Flights. I'm trying to get the decals together for all the bits and pieces in the forthcoming Atlantic Models Leander kits, including the Wasp. I have most but not all as I am missing the three listed above, and I can't remember myself despite being in and around them all the time, way back then. Any help you can give will be much appreciated.

HMS Fearless in 1/350 Scale
in Atlantic Models
Posted
I'm pleased to announce, after a long development and pattern making period, the release of ATK 35028 HMS Fearless in 1/350 scale.
This kit is a large lump due to the nature of the ship but I have managed to hollow out the hull quite considerably to reduce the amount of resin used in casting and the weight for shipping .
The kit can be built as the Fearless or her sister Intrepid using the arts provided. There are also options as to how the kit comes packaged. The basic kit ATK 35028 is packed as a waterline model for obvious reasons as well as reducing the cost of the kit. ATK 35028FH comes packed as a Full Hulled option with the lower hull , props, rudders and other parts necessary to complete her as a full hulled model.
Details and pictures have been uploaded to the main website. www.atlanticcmodels.net
