BritJet Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 I'm about to order a batch of ejection seats, and want one for an Academy Hunter F.6 - can anyone tell me what mark this aircraft had? Thanks folk! I believe its a MB Mk2H - this site has useful info and colour detail. Hope this helps. Steve
StephenMG Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 That "Ejection Seat Colour" website has a number of mistakes in it so be careful. The Hunter F.6 was originally fitted with the Mk.2H seat, although later aircraft and many of the license-built and export machines were fitted with the Mk.3H (basically the same seat but without the thigh guards and with a repositioned oxy bottle). See here for piccies. Cheers, Mark
Davec_24 Posted February 7, 2010 Author Posted February 7, 2010 That's great, thanks guys - Mk. 2Hs it is then. Thanks for the pictures, they're sure to come in handy.
Edgar Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Whichever Mark, the seat was, the overhead pull-handle was red. Edgar
StephenMG Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Whichever Mark, the seat was, the overhead pull-handle was red.Edgar Not necessarily. The F.6 straddled the changeover from the early red handles to the yellow/black striped versions. This changeover started around 1960 and by the mid-60s all seats had been retro-fitted with striped handles. It's another grey area I'm afraid so it really depends on what time period you are modelling. It's also worth mentioning that there were at least 6 different types of upper ejection handles/face screens fitted to Hunters over the years - early single loop handles in red, double loop handles in red or black/yellow plus numerous mods to account for the later hood jettison mechanism etc., etc..
