silverburn Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 (edited) Hi all, The final Eurofighter in my montage has begun. Thought I might as well while waiting for my copper wire for the undercarts on the 1:32 (in background here). Immediate observations - of the 4 kits (1:32, 1:48, 1:72 & 1:144), this has the worst flash, pitting and warping! (1:144 worst for technical accuracy...it barely even looks like a Tiffie!) Got some tidying to do before construction proper begins. I far as I can see, I face all the usual issues of the 1:32 and 1:48. Edited January 23, 2010 by silverburn
silverburn Posted January 4, 2010 Author Posted January 4, 2010 (edited) Progress... - Pit painted, decalled and in - misc bits added (eg engine inserts) - Fuselage seams tidied (putty-ed & sanded). Usual stuff - parcel shelf, at the spine part/tail interface, join at exhausts, all the bits round the intakes etc. Not much required though, to be honest. I used some fine sanding tools rather than the "industrial" stuff you use on 1:48/1:32...a refreshing change, especially when you get different curvatures of file to work with! I'd almost say it was a pleasure... - intakes built, tidied, painted and in. It's pleasing when it all goes in looking very smooth, with no gaps or sink marks - Wings on, gaps puttied ready for tidying tomorrow - Pointy explosive stuff (eg externals stores) built Tomorrow: - Finish tidying post-wing attachment - Prime - maybe base coat if I have time End of day pic: ...and with his big, big bruver! silverburn Posted January 5, 2010 Author Posted January 5, 2010 A reasonable day's progress, with one school boy error... Primer... Base coat... Lacquer & Decals... ...only to realise I hadn't actually finished painting! Had to go back and apply aluminium to the "pre-exhausts", and dust grey to the leading edges of wings and tail. Pity I rushed in too quick, and managed to damage a tail decal! Anyway, back on track. Here is the proposed load-out. Decals on later tonight. Shadow colour based on reference pics found here on BM (A tornado in Operation Telic). End of day pic...looking more like it's big brother now! Run out of Matt lacquer, not much I'll be able to do soon.
silverburn Posted January 7, 2010 Author Posted January 7, 2010 Just a simple update Undercarts on, refueller on, and central tank decalled and on. Finishing off decals now. Some of the underside ones are *tiny*... Running out of things to do. I recon it'll be done in a couple of days, once my matt lacquer arrives.
silverburn Posted January 9, 2010 Author Posted January 9, 2010 Another wee update - doing this one while waiting between tasks on the 1:32. Anyway - that's all the boom sticks on! Some more decalling to do, some weathering, then the final matt coat to close it up.
silverburn Posted January 23, 2010 Author Posted January 23, 2010 Closing this one off.... I royally b***ered it by dropping it on the floor, smashing most of it. I was gutted...I've lost all motivation to complete it, so moving it to RFI
