All,
Thanks for the admission. I’m trying to get a sense of the helmet colors of BEF helmets in the First World War. Broadly, it appears helmet paint colors we’re:
Initially “Apple Green,” followed by …
A brownish drab
But I also see these shades on colorized photos, reenactors, movies:
- a very dark green
- A lighter version of khaki green
- An olive drabish green
Any thoughts on these last three?
What contemporary paint makers and shades of paint come pretty close to matching all of these? Feel free to recommend both model paints and non-model paints, because ultimately I’m trying to refurbish old, severely rusty helmets.
I realize shades varied widely, that we don’t make paint that way anymore, and that paint darkened with age. Nevertheless, I figured this forum would have some experts.
Thank you for any and all help.
