  1. Is this a new airfix jag ? I hope so.

Just going back to my previous post..I contacted the seller, and she checked the kits she has in stock, and it turns out none of them has the weapon decals. Seems that heller have made a boo boo for them all, not just mine. Anyway, she said she would contact heller to see whats going on.

    Lets hope they sort it.

    cheers all

  2. I’ve just received this kit today as I’ve built a couple in the past and enjoyed them.

However the decals with it are absolutely terrible. The blue shade for the colourful drop tanks pictured on the box is very washed out, not really blue at all. The raf roundels are a very odd colour, and although markings for the missiles and bombs are shown on the instructions, they don’t exist on the actual sheet.

They’ve listed this as five marking options, but to be honest I don’t think they’re really usable, not if you want an accurately marked Jag..

I know heller aren’t known for amazing decals, but they’re usually better than this..

Anyway, sorry to be negative, but I thought I’d let you all know.

    cheers

  3. This was the mix I found on here, can’t remember who posted it, but all

credit to them, whoever it was :)

Base coat of EDSG is on!  This is my home brew EDSG - 6 parts XF-24 Dark Grey, 2 parts XF-54 Dark Sea Grey, 1 part XF-50 Field Blue; subsequent coats will be that mix with varying degrees of lightening to break up the large expanses of the same colour.  However, it's a start and I am very pleased with it:

  4. I’ve just bought one of these and it’s pretty good, in my opinion. Needs a repaint though. I’ve noticed that the wheels seem to have too much of a black area to represent the tyres. It seems to go onto what I think would be the metal part of the wheel. Just wondering if there’s an easy way to paint all those wheels and keep the rubber tyre where it should be, without going mad that is ..;)

    thanks in advance

  5. I’ve recently bought this kit, I’m no expert on the type, but it looks nice in the box and I think it’ll be good enough for what I want, with an Eduard cockpit set added.

The only thing is, I don’t like the pixel camo. I would like to build the splinter camo version. There’s no option for that in the box. I reckon I can use ref from the web to figure the pattern out, but I can’t find the appropriate decals on line. There doesn’t seem to be any red stars with just an outline that I can find. Suitable blue numbers would be useful too.

Are there any options for decals for the splinter version that you guys know of please ?
Might have to mod something from a begemot sheet...
    Thanks a lot

  6. Thanks for the info. I knew it’d be a leading question :)

Ok then, I was just getting used to yellow codes ;)

The question is now, who makes codes in that light shade of grey.

Hannants grey sheet looks too dark to me.
If I can’t find any, might just go with the yellow, I’ve seen a few builds with them that look really good.

  7. Hi all

I’ve started airfix’s 1:48 spit Mk V and I’m thinking of building it as Beurling’s Spit mk v with the large chin intake.

I have decals from peddinghaus for

it, but the codes are a bright yellow matching the Fuselage roundel edges.

Does anyone know if the yellow codes are correct. ?
I can’t find any actual pictures of Beurling’s  spit, but others from that time seem to either have white codes or perhaps a light grey. There’s a restored one in the Malta museum, not as Beurling’s aircraft but same camo, and the codes on that look to be a light grey. I know it’s not the best idea to use restored aircraft as good ref from that time, but maybe they have reliable info..

    Anyway, hope someone can advise.

    thanks a lot

    Phil
