Ok i didnt realise Maskol had ammonia in it. I only used a little bit last night and didnt smell it but when i used it again to test i could smell it straight away. I guess thats why not to leave it on for more than 3 days? Would the ammonia damage the plastic? Im going to try one more test tonight with the acrylic paint and leave it overnight in the tesco cleaner and see if i get anywhere this time with that. I cant think of any other good ideas since Maskol doesnt seem to be great so i might just have to take the risk of using the acrylic and hope i can get it off without any surface damage when i get them.. Was hoping to get the paint sent to her tomorrow so trying a few last tests tonight and hope that something works. Fairy Power Spray i thought was going to be fine until i tested it on that other gun and it took the underlayer off too, guess the other guns i used the plastic itself was coloured which was why there was no damage I heard acrylic paint can also be removed by oven cleaner left in a bag overnight? Also brake fluid? Those things sound stronger to me so they would be a last resort if im stuck to get the paint off. Im just afraid of things being too strong and taking the gold off the guns I dont want to be waiting forever and trying loads of other things, shes wanting the guns out of her way as she's had them since July. Hopefully all the worry will be for nothing and i will be able to get the paint off easier than i expect but im expecting the worst for now as it has happened to me before. That one was able to be fixed by respraying the slide but these cant be fixed if ruined If anyone has any other suggestions then still post it here. Even if i send the paint tomorrow (will post both the watercolour and acrylic paint) then i can still get things here, try them and if they work i can post them on to her. I wouldnt care if it was a cheap plastic model or something here but these cost me $300 so i want them to be safe from ruin. The acrylic paint i have is Revell Aqua Colour in carmine red Thanks for the suggestions. Im still not sure about whether to use masking fluid or not (due to the time it will need to be left on for) so unless i hear more about it then i will probably just leave it

So put that glue over it instead of the masking fluid? I might look into that. What is dry copydex or did you mean once its dry its easy to remove? Either stuff like this as the bottom layer and paint over the top (in this case it would be acrylic on top so it would be waterproof) or watercolour as the base paint and this as the top layer. Depends on the finish if its the top layer, i dont want it to feel shiny/filmy and draw attention to it. If it comes off easy with no surface damage then its worth looking into it. Thanks

Really? Never used it before. Just did a test and it comes off fine, still dont know about how long it can be left on for though. Thanks i will look into that too I just had an idea to use watercolour paint as the base so it will come off easy but put Maskol on top of the paint rather than the other way around. First test and putting the Maskol on took the paint off with the wateryness of the Maskol. Will keep trying things and see if i can think of a way to make it both easy to remove without damaging the surface and good enough to pass any test that Customs might try on it (apparently they can take a cloth to it (i assume water) and if the paint comes off they impound them) so if it can pass a water test and not look dodgy (see that theres a plastic film over the top for example) then its good to go. If i can get masking fluid to work as a top layer with watercolour as the base and the surface not look obvious that it has the film on it it will be a good solution

Though i have found some ways of removing acrylic paint as per my other threads, a few of my tests havent had too promising results. Basically its about this gun again that i need painted: http://www.geocities.jp/timmfc2/toygun/HpT...n/AgLuger01.jpg They are plastic but i am afraid of the gold coming off when i try to remove the paint. Fairy Power Spray works good at removing acrylic paint but on a gun i just tested it on it also took the paint off the surface of the gun to reveal the black underneath (i thought the plastic itself was red but i have now found it to be black under it) This i do not want as it could remove the gold from these guns and ruin them. Maybe i just left it on too long (20 mins) before removing it but i dont want to take any chances of ruining these ones. I've tried the Tesco value all purpose cleaner too but it hasnt worked very well if at all in my tests. Surgical spirit works but i've had experience with this before in which it almost ruined an expensive gun by melting the plastic of the slide.. definately do not recommend using that to remove acrylic paint from plastic unless you have to or the underneath surface doesnt matter I was recommended before to use some Maskol, paint on top of that then i could just peel it all off when i get them. However when i read the tub it says not to leave it on surfaces for more than 3 days. I would need it left on for at least 2 weeks (the guns are in the US at the moment with my friend) So i was wondering what would happen if it was left on for this long? I dont see how it could cause any damage to the surface? Im still running tests now but im really unsure of what to do now.. Watercolour paint has been my best solution as it easily comes off with water but that in itself is a problem (if customs happens to do an inspection and finds the paint to just wipe off then they will impound them) I need paint to come off easily but not TOO easily incase they are tested I just wondered about the Maskol idea but unsure of results if its left on the surface for too long. Any ideas?

I have another gun related question. As per my other topic i have another airsoft gun now which needs to be painted before i can get it as per UK airsoft gun laws. This time the gun is metal plated rather than plastic: http://www.wolfarmouries.co.uk/airsoft/bb/...amp;id=UMR8ITAN Someone told me that using acrylic or any other paints like that wouldnt be a good idea as the methods to remove the paint could damage the plating. He suggested using watercolour paint in a thick layer to get it to stick to the gun and can remove it by putting the whole gun into water and washing it off. Would this work? I wouldnt have thought watercolour paint would stick to the surface or come off as easily as he made it sound. I need to let the person i bought it from know asap what paint to use so we can move on with this. The watercolour idea sounds good if it works. I dont want to use anything that may be aggressive in removing paint as it could damage the plating surface. Just wondering if anyone here has any experience in painting onto a metal plated finish and later removing the paint without any damage to the surface

Thanks for the recommendation. I got some and in my tests it can be removed relatively easily by both the Tesco All Purpose Cleaner (some but not all comes off) and Fairy Power Spray i find works the best in taking it off but again leaves some bits stuck on. Depending on the finish of the plastic i put it on of course. My spare chrome gun frame i tested it on, it sticks on fine and comes off as easily as by scraping with my finger even with multiple coats of paint without any paint stripper needed. I am unsure of the finish on these guns, dont want any gold to come off.. I have just bought another gun too which needs painted. The finish on it is plating rather than plastic. I contacted the guy who painted a gun for me before and said that using these paints could damage the plated finish and suggested using water colour paint in thick layers to get it to stay on and can easily be removed by putting it in water. Could water colour paint maybe work on these plastic guns too? I dont want any risk in ruining them by either damaging the surfaces on them or not being able to get the paint off as i expect

I cant just paint over tape, if customs see that they'd see it as an attempt to illegally get them into the country. I want to keep things legal so i dont lose them Painting onto Maskol is an interesting idea. Not sure how that would work, may also be risky if they inspect them and see it can be peeled off Im thinking acrylic is the best to use now, will forget about enamel. Dont know if brand of acrylic paint would make any difference I also saw in another thread about oven cleaner working to safely remove it without damaging the plastic. This might work? Im going to try the Fairy Power Spray idea first and see how easily, if at all, i can remove a few different types of acrylic paint. I might also try the Mr Muscle oven cleaner idea if all else fails. As long as its safe to use with no risk of damaging the plastic surface then im happy to try it out Thanks for the tips

I never varnish paint so could try that. I just want it to come off easy without having to scrub it hard as it will scratch the surface. If fairy would work to remove acrylic then that would be good That would be illegal. If customs discovered that the paint was on something that can just be removed then they would be impounded and destroyed in customs. The plastic itself has to be properly painted unfortunately Painting onto masking tape or something would work but its very risky if they found it..

Hi. I wanted to post here and see what people would recommend the best paint to use for this situation. I have a set of Resident Evil airsoft guns that are currently with my friend in the US. Because of stupid laws here i have to have 51% of the gun painted a bright colour if you're not a 'regular skirmisher'. Im a collector and want the guns for my RE collection. For now i need the guns painted until i do the stupid skirmishing to legally own them without being painted. That takes a minimum of 2 months and im not waiting forever on these so im having them painted. My friend needs to know what paint to use to paint them with. They are plastic but are also highly detailed/embossed. They're gold so im worried about ruining the surface of them. This is them: http://www.1999.co.jp/itbig02/10022971a.jpg I need to have them painted but temporarily so it can easily be removed at a later date. I've been doing a few tests with different paint, is 50/50 whether it comes off or not. Some wipe off pretty easily with white spirit but alot dont. I found a thread here (how i found this site) about using cheap 'All purpose cleaner' from tesco. I have tried that and it has similar results or little effectiveness. What would be some recommendations to use for this project? Obviously i cant have any damage done to the plastic by the remover. Enamel i thought came off easily but with my tests it hasnt. Acrylic sometimes does sometimes doesnt. Im wondering if different brands and length of time the paint is on makes any difference to its removal. Ideas of the best paint to use and what to use to remove it would be much appreciated. I dont want to risk ruining these by using a paint that i cant easily remove as they were very expensive being rare items Thank you
