PhotoBucket are no longer permitting 3rd party hosting   01/07/17

As most of you are now painfully aware, Photobucket (PB) are stopping/have stopped allowing their members to link their accumulated years of photos into forums and the like, which they call 3rd party linking.  You can give them a non-refundable $399 a year to allow links, but I doubt that many will be rushing to take them up on that offer.  If you've previously paid them for the Pro account, it looks like you've got until your renewal to find another place to host your files, but you too will be subject to this ban unless you fork over a lot of cash.   PB seem to be making a concerted move to another type of customer, having been the butt of much displeasure over the years of a constantly worsening user interface, sloth and advertising pop-ups, with the result that they clearly don't give a hoot about the free members anymore.  If you don't have web space included in your internet package, you need to start looking for another photo host, but choose carefully, as some may follow suit and ditch their "free" members at some point.  The lesson there is keep local backups on your hard drive of everything you upload, so you can walk away if the same thing happens.   There's a thread on the subject here, so please use that to curse them, look for solutions or generall grouse about their mental capacity.   Not a nice situation for the forum users that hosted all their photos there, and there will now be a host of useless threads that relied heavily on photos from PB, but as there's not much we can do other than petition for a more equitable solution, I suggest we make the best of what we have and move on.  One thing is for certain.  It won't win them any friends, but they may not care at this point.    Mike.

  1. I am just about to start building, but am very concerned about the best way to get a good finish on the model. It will be finished in overall satin black (As a Nightfighter), but I'm not sure of the best way to do this. My plan is to spray it in gloss black and then apply the decals. I'm struggling to source Humbrol aerosol satin varnish. Would Plastikote varnish be useable on plastic and on the decals? Any comments would be gratefully received. Regards, Geoff.
  2. Hi John, What a brilliant offer - If you do find you have a spare pair, I would certainly appreciate them. Let me know how much. Cheers, Geoff.
  3. Hi Mike, Thanks for the information - I think I'll give the PE a go, and see how I get on. Hi Dennis, I'll see what I can find out and give it a go - I had a model shop in Carlisle in the '70s and '80s, and dealt with Richard Kohnstam for my Tamyia stock. I think they morphed into RIKO and suspect they have closed down, but I'll keep you posted. Thanks everyone for your help. Cheers, Geoff.
  4. Hi Dennis, Thank you for all your efforts. I think I need to find somebody who has lost interest in their Tamiya kit! Cheers, Geoff.
  5. Hi Jason, Again, thanks for the quick reply. Do you know of anyone producing the A.I. aerials - Also whether the photo-etching for the Tamiya kit be suitable for the Revell version Thanks for all your help today!!! Cheers, Geoff.
  6. Hi Jason, Thanks for the quick reply - That'll get me started, but I didn't know about the change in cockpit canopy! Cheers, Geoff.
  7. Hi, Looking for help already with converting a 1:32 Revell Mosquito Mk IV to a MK II Nightfighter. My uncle flew with 157 Squadron, and I would like to try and replicate his aircraft. I have his Combat Reports, and he describes his aircraft as a Mosquito Mk II (AI.Mk V). I have discovered a replacement resin Mk II nose from Grey Matter which looks good - Any opinions? Also a sheet of photo-etched parts for the cockpit, but for the Tamiya version - Would this be suitable for the Revell version. Also looking for the AI aerials, and, I think, gun barrels for the replacement nose. Any other ideas? Looking forward to a mountain of replies! Cheers, Geoff.
  8. I've just been given the 1:32 Mosquito kit by Revell as a present. It's about 30 years since I last built anything, so I'm looking for help already! I'll post later on this. I ran a model shop in Carlisle in the late '70s and early '80s, but it's like starting again. Very pleased the Mosquito kit is still about. Now for the questions! Cheers, GeoffD.
