This kit is a re-issue of the 1976 Jaques Cousteau kit rebranded as the vessel 'Neptun'. I wonder if the old decals are available anywhere?

Was this kit ever issued with decals as Cousteau's ship? If so hope you can find them.

Its first issue in 1976 was, but apparently Simone Cousteau didn't want to play nicely with Revell this time around so they couldn't issue the proper decals. There are decals to be found on evil-bay from time to time.

Actually there was a second release in 1991/1992 (don't remember exactly), kit 5235 that did come with the "Calypso" markings:

And Jherek, you forgot the Zodiac! B)

Edit: It also came with this super cool base (unfortunately blanked out in the latest issue):

Has anyone tried printing on 'Inkjet Water-Slide Decal Paper'?

Is this an option?

And off we go.

The rear deck is a dry fitted so I can glue the ill fitting transom in the correct place before I sand it down.

There's flash galore on these sprues...

Wonder if anyone has used the kit as the basis for conversion to her original minesweeper configuration?

That would be a big job!

Next steps

1. Primer (Tamiya Fine Rattle can)

2. Coat of white

3. Airbrush Red Band on the hull

4. Airbrush bottom hull black.

5. Brush paint the wooden decks various shades of brown and the paint the moulded hardware.

6. Wash the doors

7. Assemble all the rigging/ cranes / life boats

8. Prime the assemblies

9. Paint the assemblies

10. Glue em all on.

11. Varnish, Decals more Varnish, done.

Of course steps 7-9 will probably happen concurrently with the rest.

The age of the mold / quality shows here -

Unusable in its present form!

After removing all the pins and rubbish -

More of less all the little parts need this. Slow going.

I had same issue with the revell tug boat - turned into a good kit after a lot of flash removal! Good luck.
