  2. The beam of a WW2 Battleship would be a problem due to average bottle neck size, so I think this idea of a bottle with a cut off bottom to insert it might be fraught with problems, plus it would always be noticeable even if you managed to do it. A normal display case might be a better option to protect your model and possibly a lot more suited to the subject in order to view it better anyway.

  4. It's worth noting that the otherwise excellent Air Graphics Dominie engine set lacks the small bulge on the underside of the No.2 (starboard) engine. This covers the alternator that was only fitted to the No.2 engine. It provided electrical power for the windscreen anti-icing system. Trevor
  5. Simple answer, lots of stuff. Also on a warm sunny day just about any insect that flies will find your fresh gloss coat irresistable. But main concerns tend to be temperature, its often not as warm as you think, moisture, that one rain drop from a cloudless sky will land on your model, and wind - even a tiny breeze can be a pain. Also you have to move your freshly painted model indoors immediately or all of the above will make their mark in the fifteen minutes or so the paint is drying. So, not ideal, but sometimes you have no choice. Oh, and don't spray resting on the patio table, side wall or anything else without covering it. Unlike the workbench, you will be nagged about overspray. Matt
  6. Hi @senux, @geoawelch & @FalkeEins. Thank you very much for your comments and apologies to @senux for my reply being so late! Kind regards, Stix
  7. Splendid work P. Your builds are great. A pleasure to follow. Informative, unique and beautifully crafted, without claims of being absolutely right (which would be difficult with your subjects). Best wishes, Charlie
  8. nice looking Messer! great outcome of your input and benefits.
  9. very great result with nice looking Mustang. I know what you felt dealing with decals. I came through when building my own Mustang. The "new type" decals made me bleed ... 😀 put it apart, you manage nicely this your case. Great build!!! oh and yes the Tigers are great as well
  10. Don Brown says "The designation M.2P was given to two aircraft of 1,900lb all up weight of 34ft span and 174sq ft wing area and fitted with dual control but having wider cockpits" And "the M2W.... had enlarged cockpit openings.... increased span and wing area of the M.2P and M.2R" Amos gives the full history of K8626 - originally M.2H G-ADGL... cockpit sides were deepened and a lamp fitted behind the rear cockpit. No clues anywhere about the ailerons. PM me an email address and I'll send phone pics of the various pages.
  11. One of the worst thing about airbrushing is the dust particles that get stuck on the painted surface. I have managed to mitigate the problem after starting to use mainly MRP and Mr Color lacquers. But especially when a wet coat is needed, particles of this floating lint gets on the painted surface. Usually I don't care if the finish is not totally perfect, I build aircraft and most of the time a final matt varnish will hide the imperfections. But I have a 1/24 Ford T Model from ICM on the way, and they also just released a new A model which I'm interested in. Glossy paint exacerbates the dust problem, so I'm thinking that I maybe would use a spray can or a portable small compressor & airbrush, and paint the parts requiring glossy paint outdoors. My actual question is, how much stuff there is floating in the air outdoors, would it make a difference? I was surprised when last summer one day I noticed how the air was full of small floating particles, they were visible against the light. Looked like the dust we have indoors. Are they there the whole time, but they are not just visible?
  12. Out of the two of us, she's more likely! 😂😂😂
  13. The way car insurance is calculated is a bit of a mystery, but some things do seem to play a part. Age is one thing most people are aware. In general young men and the elderly are risky, doesn't matter if you are the world's most careful driver, it will still matter. Gender is supposed to be less of an issue, but I am not so sure in real life it is still not a factor. Occupation also seems/seemed to play a part. Nurses did well, journalists less so. At the end of the day, cynical me thinks the insurance companies have you over a barrel as they know you must have insurance to drive. They will push for what they can get. We change our provider almost every year, and it seems a bit of a roundabout, as eventually a company we have used will come up.
  14. My ** car insurance renewal came in £354 comp. Last year I paid £215. I'm 70, full 20 years NCD been driving since 1979. Petrol car 1.2 cc. I grumbled at the huge increase they offered £315. I've left them and gone to a well known supermarket brand below £300. Outrageous discrimination against older, experienced driver's. Why should I subsidise uninsured drivers and garage labour cost's !
  15. Looking good John. My reservation about mixing paint, having never done it, would be trying to replicate the mix again. I suppose a slight variation probably wouldn't be noticed if you needed to mix another batch but a premix, straight from the bottle, is consistent. Interesting news on the spare track too. Atb
  16. Thanks for further clarification on this subject! I would certainly be interested in any additional images that help with this discussion & sorry for stealing the thread from pure kit development to the markings story. Still, it's, in a way, part of it all...
  17. There has been an Amodel 1/144 C-130 available for quite a while, it is a known quantity and mention of it causes some modelers to shiver. These two releases are not that kit. It is probably important to clarify that point to avoid confusion. While these two new kits may well have had their molds tooled by Amodel, simply saying "well they were made by Amodel so we can know what is in the box" is a tad unfair. Old MPM/early Special Hobby kits were absolute pigs to build. But that doesn't reflect on what Special Hobby is capable of today. Companies are capable of evolving. If these two new kits from Sova-M turn out to be "fatally flawed" or "challenging", then let's discuss these kits on their own merits. Not from a starting point of "well, an older kit from the company that cut the molds was not a very good kit." That really tells us nothing about the current kit that is being discussed.
  18. Nice progress Chris, I have Starighter envy! 🤣
  19. A bit late in saying hello, but welcome along enjoy your builds!
  20. Very nicely done, the colour definitely improves a 2CV! Chris.
  21. Hi All, It feels appropriate to be working on this Aussie pair on ANZAC Day, on what is always a most dignified and solemn occasion - Lest We Forget. First job of the day was to apply a gloss coat: The 'Y' code on the Tiffie is presented as Sky in the decals, whereas the photo clearly shows it to be white: I therefore applied stencils to paint in the correct colour: And after spraying: The decals were then applied to both: Here we are after a second gloss coat: @corsaircorp sorry there's no sharkmouth on the Kittyhawk, but it IS an Aussie aircraft!! I've just noticed how markedly different the roundel blue shades are - I will have to try and address that with a fading matt coat. As I write this I'm waiting for the gloss coat to settle down so I can apply a Flory wash, so it may be tomorrow before I post again - it seemed foolish not to take a day's annual leave to get a 4 day weekend! Thanks for looking, Roger
  22. That looks brilliant Chris, excellent work! Really like the oil staining inside the cowling (well, really like all of it t.b.h.! ) Keith PS - also never actually realised how an exhaust collector ring connected on a radial engine - I do now!
