Canberra's tail - when you remove the rudder

Recommended Posts

Pressing on with my CA Canberra, and Ihad removed the rudder section so I could position it off centre. I'm struggling to find any clear images of what the insides look like with Rudder removed?

Any good reference pics anywhere please?

Hai Gary

I found a picture in the old Aeroguide 7 about the Canberra and scanned it.

Unfortunally I have no idea how to include the scan in this reply I always get the note to include the URL. If you pass your private e-mail address I 'll sent it to you.

Kind regards Edmond

Where`s bex i`m sure she could be of service in this matter.

Im here Gang, just missed this thread thats all  Ok, I havent got any photos of this, all I have is a B2 & PR7 tech manual which have diagrams but if I think of anything I'll drop it here. I do have photos of WH773's rear equip / Cam bay with shots from front to rear, would that help?

I'm probably being immensely thick here Gary.

I'd expect the rear surface of the fin, into which the rudder LE fits, to be a curved recess, probably clad in very lightweight dural. The hinges would protrude, within that area. The upper sloping sectiion will probably be flat.

I have a recollection that part of the fin - presumably the trapezoidal LE section, was said to be wooden, presumably for weight reasons. That would comprise the main part of the sloping section of fin & hence I'd expect it to be flat, possibly with an upset along the edges. (No doubt John at Aeroclub could confirm that)

That seems too simple an answer for this - which is why I guess I've misunderstood something.

Cheers,

John
