Hunter FGA9

Recommended Posts

At last! The Revell Hunters arrived in the shop yesterday! Thanks to a down-turn in the economy(!) and the crap weather - trade was slow - so I got cracking....

Here are the two new sprues - pertinent to the FGA9 and the Swiss F58. The Swiss aircraft used a tank somewhere between the 100 gall & 230 Gall tanks provided in the kit- these haven't been produced - which is a shame...

Build will be more o less out of the box - though I think maybe a 1970's 45 or 58 Sqn FGA9 based at Wittering...

I've applied the upper colours - and cleaned up with micromesh. I'll re-paint the exposed areas in a slightly different shade of Dark Sea Grey to give a prototypical weathered effect (hopefully!)

Nice, Bill.

Thanks for the sprue and decal shots and best of luck with the build. Looks like you're off to a great start; I'm keen to see how your weathering turns out, as I've not tried to micromesh the paint finish before.

Cheers,

Andrew.

As someone already said, yesterday??? It's looking great, but do you have the influence to lobby Revell and get them to up-scale thos beauties to 1/48th?

Yaaaaaay! 79 markings!!! (although this means a change of plan on the F6s, as the second one was going to be 79) - last FGA9 in RAF service IIRC

Although, even allowing for the visibility trials Red finned one, the RAF markings are a bit uninspiring for what they could have been.

Yep!! But I have soooooo many Mk 9's I need to do - and so many modeldecal and xtradecal sheets to work through!!

Bill,

You mentioned using micromesh:

Was this to sand out imperfections on your first coat?

Or did you use it to give tonal difference with your next coat? If so, I like that idea.

Cheers.

Bob

Hi Bob, Yes! (mostly to the first question, though it does work well for your second question as well.....)

Looks beautiful, but it's the "wrong" scale. I love their 1/32 Hunter & this looks similar in quality but I really wish they'd do a 1/48 kit. I've built so many Academy Hunters with more to do but I'm sick of all the hacking required to get a good result with that kit! I know, I know..... :deadhorse:

Well, My 58 Sqn Hunter FGA9 is coming along.... managed to get the paint on and some of the decals.....these were from the kit AND a THIRTY+ year old Modeldecal sheet!!!

(Don't look too closely at th enose bars though....I originally used a set from the Matchbox kit - but decided that the colours on the MD sheet were better.

The seat and undercarriage are Aeroclub white metal .....

I've applied a bit of weathering - particularly underneath.....
