AnonymousAA72
I started this some time ago, and I've only really started to decal the thing!!! Its the Fujimi kit (of course) with 29Sqn markings from Modeldecal. I've used Xtracrlic paints for the three camo colours with Citadel paints for the Black(Chaos), White (Skull) and Metal (Mithril). I've added a few more decals since these photo's were taken!! I'll post some more as I add bits!!!
Andy K
Looking great Bill. Those Fujimi F-4's are quite nice I seem to recall?
Richard E
Looks good Bill - did you open the air brakes and detail the auxilliary engine intakes doors?

hatchet
Looking great Bill! That Mithril is the dogs innit? I just sprayed some on an F-15 the other day, looks good. Looking forward to seeing more of this one
Shaun
Looks good Bill - did you open the air brakes and detail the auxilliary engine intakes doors? The Fujimi British Phantoms come two versions- Early mold and late mold. Fujimi updated the molds to refine some details after the first few production runs, these is what was changed for updated kits. Aux intake doors added to the sides and underside, flaps droped, airbrakes as seperate parts improved exhust nozzels. Your build looks great Bill, Nice to see a 29 sqn green and grey Phantom. Shaun. dahut
It looks loverly, Mr. Bill. I like the Brit Phantoms next to the USN ones. Many others are so dull and plain - but not them Brits, with their squadron bands and badges.

Yep!! If you see any of these on e-bay try to see what the serial number on the box is...IF its H-9 (or thereabouts?) its the earlier mould, if its H-19 its the latter mould. These are for the original boxings only - if its any of the "specials"....Allcock & Browne, Raspberry Ripple, Bye Bye Phantom, Black Mike etc., they should be the latter tools The original kits did have the Aux doors on the side, though they were in the wrong place! TEZ
Hi Bill Coming along nicely. Bearing in mind the age of Modeldecal set 30 did you have any problems applying the decals ? I have two FGR 2s on the go at the moment, one of which will be marked up using an early Modeldecal sheet (56 squadron grey/green). Andrew

Andrew I managed to get a hold of EVERY Modeldecal set last year = with a few spares thrown in! Plus I had already had a stash - safely stored away - and some of it goes back to the late 1960's early 1970's - and it is as good today as it was then. In fact Decal technology has moved on since - but is it any better than this???? I'm a great fan of Modeldecal - always have been; Their production was superb - and the research second to none!! Others may wish to take note!!!
Mark
Hello Bill, Great looking Phantom. I agree with your comments re. Modeldecal, but they were really only 1/72nd, but then I guess that the majority of us only modelled in 1/72nd during Airfix's heyday! Regarding the citadel paints, I am now using chaos black as the only game in town with respect to matt black. Decanted straight from a spray can into a film canister and then handpainted for cockpit details etc. I'll have to try some of the other shades too! Looking forward to seeing the Phantom finished. EE Lightning
Nice one Bill - really like the weathered grey/green on top deck...looks v. authentic and really looking forward to seeing the finished project...keep up your good work! Smiffy
You always build the coolest stuff, Bill. Your taste in aircraft/markings is excellent (IMHO). This one's no exception. Another masterpiece in the making.
AnonymousAA72
Seeing the latest spate of Phantom projects on here, thought I'd dig out this oldie......done occassional work on my 1/72nd FGR2 lately - though not that much - though she should be approaching finals soon... AnonymousAA72
I can't believe how old this build is! I know I'm slow - but this is having a laugh!! I've just found a build thread on ARC for my 1/48th scale FGR2 build (XV415/"E" 56Sqn) and that was started BEFORE Britmodeller.com was born!!! I may post some pic's on here later..... I really must extract my digit!
