Bristol Beaufighter

Recommended Posts

Tamiya 1/48 Beaufighter.

First finish for '08 and it was a quickie. Built for the second annual Blitzbau over on UAMF. The Blitzbau concept is simple, we build a kit, any kit, in 24hrs. By 24hrs we mean literally that, not 24 building hours spread over a fortnight. Last year I built a Revell Vosper MTB.

This year I decided to push the boat out a bit (Excuse pun please!) and go for the Tamiya Beaufighter I recently picked up.

I can't tell you much about the build tbh as it's a bit of a blur, but I did over thursday and yesterday. It's a nice kit, not as good as the Mosquito I did before Christmas but generally well engineered and adequately detailed.

Here's some pics.

The build thread, such as it is, is here if you want to look,

And if you feel inspired to have a go, there's plenty of time left yet!

Hope you likey :)

Jen.

P.S. Big thanks are due to Steve Evans, who sent me some tailplanes as mine were missing and also provided the decals. Thankyou Stevey :D

Wow that's great, glad to see you were taking tea breaks, can't get by without them, makes me want to build another one in the same markings, but I think two is enough. Great work under pressure, totally impressed.

Cheers

I'd be hard pushed to knock one up to that standard in in 24 days, Jen, never mind 24 hours - kudos

:ditto: thats exactly what I was thinking, totally amazing Jen as always :worthy::worthy:

Lovely Beau Jen, you should be proud.

Couple of questions ...

How did you paint the metallic part of the engine cowls?

What paint make did you use for the green?

Was the vacform canopy really worth it? (I have the same kit in the stash, but thought the canopy was fine as is).

Do you have any larger pics of the main body paint up process I could take a look at? I'm interested in the post-shading that you thought was patchy, as the pictures you have posted look excellent and not patchy at all.

Thanks,

Ant.

Thanks Ant,

Ok, the metallic cowl rings are done with Alclad. Three different shades to be precise, those being jet exhaust, steel and pale burnt metal in that order.

The green is Gunze Sangyo acrylic, can't remember the exact one off the top of my head but it's USAF Euro green.

I didn't use the vacform canopy in the end as I didn't have time. The kit parts are very good as they are but one big advantage with the vacform ones is that the rear bubble has part of the fuselage moulded integral with it. This means that you can pose it open if you wanted to.

All the pictures that I took of the build are on my picture trail site and can be viewed larger if you go there rather than look at them on the forum. http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p...amp;uid=4339047

Hope that helps,

Jen.
