Serendipitous? you bet! At the end of the day these airframes are 30 odd years old - and have spent the last half of that time on active duty in hot and sandy places. To everyone but a bean-counter its a no-brainer that they need replacing. I do wonder how it will affect Boeings continuing attempts to sell the F-15E, even though the problem will no doubt be "sorted" on new build airframes.
