A Trump Sluff

Recommended Posts

This is my first "in progress" thread so bear with me.

Ive seen the standard of some of the excellent work going on here so I though I would have a go.

A 1/32 trumpy Sluff built out the box with the exception of the Zacto correction set. I will be using the Kit decals in VF 82 Marauders.

Here we go and bear with my photography.

Seems to be a popular modeling subject at the moment.

Shaun.

Okay, I knew that! Have you seen the one periklis is doing? It is nothing short of a miracle.

Superior! The cream always rises...

What is a Sluff?

And for the record; SLUF stands for Short Little Ugly F......

Your cockpit looks really clean and crisp. Nicely done! Though I find it interesting that you consider the Zacto conversion to be a minor exception? That's a decent piece of surgery! I'm hoping to get round to the A-7D + Zacto + Aries tub + Aries avionics bays mega-build I have in the stash at some point this year so you can bet I'll be following your progress very closely!!

Oh no no no, the Zacto upgrade is far from a minor change and the surgery is such that I think im going to have to rent an NHS operating room and life support team! :o

Im looking forward to the challenge but dont hold out too much hope! only joking...

Yes the bang seat does indeed look a little strange probably beacuse there is no representation for the chute pack which I think is on the top of the seat although If anyone has a clear picture of an E model seat I would be obliged.

The kit itself was a 2006 Christmas pressy and the Zacto Kit a Birthday pressie. I would have liked the Aires pit but ive run out of pressie celebrations, that and were saving for our Kids big family hols......

I do have a spare Aires seat which is from an F 18, however this ,I think is too modern a seat for the A7. Can anyone give any guidance?

Thanks for your comments thus far.

Looking very good, all these A7's floating around at the moment are putting ideas into my head, and theyre the right era to fit in with my A6 fetish :yikes:

replace it with Aires

Actually an interesting point- as I am currently mucking around with the same thing in 1/72- as a break from all my other projects! :analintruder:

However- the Trump kit has a cockpit "hinge" line like this

100_1913.jpg

The Fujimi 1/72 has a sort of "ear" as a pivot point- totally different

Are you a Sluff god Ed? Do you know the answers to this question..

Try this for starters- my refs don't close in enough....

Superb very many thanks

Outstanding reference ta. Looks like the seat is a cross between the Escapac and Stencel seat which means the top of the seat in indeed flat as a pancake but are different colours and layout completely. Perhaps in hindsight the aries option was a good one! DOH!

Just had a look at Zacto models to se ewhat all the fuss is about- bloody Hell! WOW WOW WOW :gobsmacked:

These are surely the people to do a proper correction for the Viggie- I mean- that A-7 canopy is just :gobsmacked:

Ive just taken delivery of the 1 32 Flanker intake correction set. Amazing works of art.

Question is, how far do you go with the superdetailing thing!!!!

Discuss..

Thanks again all.

When I said equipment cabs next, I lied.

I stuffed together the wheel bays and filled and sanded the injector pin holes in the intake. No dramas there then.

I couldnt resist getting into the Zacto stuff so it was on with the air intake.

I have to say, I am amazed at the difference in the profile of the Kit intake and Chris's resin converter piece. Its attention to detail that makes the difference and Chris has even made the recess for the kit locator pins to sit within the ring. Zacto I salute you! :worthy:

Then it was surgery time. As per the clear instructions I started cutting the intake about removing this amount of plastic for the converter ring

Word of advice, cut smaller than the dimensions in the instructions, then sand sand sand, regularly setting the intake and converter into the body.

You should end up with this

See the difference in profile? a serious gap to be sorted!

The first part of the surgery has finished and my Sluf is well and truly in recovery!

First the nose came off!

DSC_0171.jpg

Then got replaced by the Zacto nose (dry fitted many times)

Then a coup with the intake. Having sprayed the inside white, I got to thinking how to avoid all the filling and sanding to get rid of the gap between the profiles of the converter ring and the intake.

I tacked the top of the converter ring onto the intake with superglue and then by gently squeezing the sides of the intake, the plastic filled the profile of the converter ring. Still pressing the intake, I heated it gently with a hairdryer and hey presto it stayed in place. I then plastered the outside of the ring with superglue and set aside for more work tomorrow.

The remaining tiny gap will be filled with either pva or superglue, I havnt decided yet, and then painted again.

These are the results.
