eng
Hi folks, I Know most of you may have just read the topic title and gone "duhh, the right hand side", but I've a serious question - were they, and why, ever fitted to the left hand side of the cockpit? Reason I ask is I was browsing through a book of mine, "Tornado" by Andy Evans, and did a double take at the picture of a 12 Sqn GR.1B going vertical on pg97 of the book as the refuel probe is most definetly on the left side of the cockpit!! Unfortunately the aircraft serial number is obscured by the Hindenburg tanks otherwise I'd probably have been able to find more pic's. The picture is credited to Rick Brewell whose name rings a bell, and I'm sure is, or was, a Sgt in the RAF. Any more pic's or anyone know the reason behind this? My only thought was that it may relate to airframe or system changes for carriage of the Sea Eagle missile which the the photo shows 2 of being carried. I've never noticed this before and thought I'd get a good response here! Happy New Year, Eng

Jabba
It looks like this photo has somehow been reversed as the LRMTS (Laser Rangefinder and Marked Target Seeker) fairing is also on the left hand side when it should be on the right hand side. Gary West
I Know most of you may have just read the topic title and gone "duhh, the right hand side", but I've a serious question - were they, and why, ever fitted to the left hand side of the cockpit? The F3's have them fitted to the left but retracted into the fuselage so not visible
eng
Bex, your Tonka is lookin superb, can't wait to see this finished! The refuel probe on your's is on the side I'd expect to find it, but the pic in the Andy Evan's book has it on the opposite side! As Jabba has pointed out the LRMTS is also on the wrong side and suggests the photo has been reversed, but in my mind even if it had, what's fitted to a specific side of the aircraft will not change if the pic is reversed, only text would appear incorrect. Gary, another thought, I wonder if the plumbings available both sides but capped on the side not used, and it is optional as to which is used. I've only ever seen it fitted to the right side til this pic caught my eye, glad to see this has provoked some thought, Eng Edited January 7, 2008 by eng
