2007 In Review

Today, the last day of 2007 I went and fought the crowds in Swindon to emerge victorious with a copy of Model Aircraft International, the Jan 2008 edition. Why? My first ever magazine review is contained within, a model of a Wildcat that I built back in September.

Having a model in a magazine is something I've wanted to do since I was an early teenager. I've taken my time but I've finally done it! Even my Trumpeter competition model never really made it into the magazines, although I think it may have been in FSM at some point. It did achieve the aim indirectly though since it gave credibility to my offer of review models for Richard Franks (aided and abetted by John Wilkes, thanks John)

This prompted me to reflect a little on 2007(easily done while sitting in endless traffic jams on the way home) which has been a pretty big year for me all round, and chock full of firsts and milestones.

I went away to Hong Kong, thanks to Phillip Brook, Pocketbond and a certain ME262 model, I produced and began selling my first ever resin accessory set, I built my first commissions, I built my first review model, I have had some of my work published in a book and to top it all off, I landed myself a job with Vince at www.modelsforsale.com.

I consolidated old friendships, and made a bunch of new ones. I made a lot of models, and I bought even more!

As far as the models go, I've made 29 this year which I think is quite a few more than the year before. The reason I know how many I made is from a suggestion by a prominent member of The Unofficial Airfix Modelling Forum that we keep a record of what we've built versus what we bought.

Unfortunately, I bought something like 100 kits in the same time that I built only 29 - Doh!

Here's a list of what I built, roughly in the order they were built in.

294091306.jpg

1/48 Hasegawa ME109E

294565452.jpg

1/48 Tamiya Mosquito BIV

All of these were pretty decent builds, the worst kit was the Airfix SR53, the best, the Tamiya Mosquito. The biggest let down was undoubtedly the Revell Typhoon and the biggest surprise probably the Airifx DH4.

My favourite finished model of them, I dunno. Top 3? The Eurofighter, FW190 and ME109.

Honourable mention should go to the Airfix 1/24 Harrier which is about 75% finished and the Airfix St Louis sailing ship which is about half done.

Many of the Airfix builds were for a highly successful display by the Classic British Kits SIG at Telford, where we recreated the 1977 Airfix catalogue cover photograph.

My aims in 2008 are simple. I want to consolidate my business dealings, get a few more reviews published and increase my range of resin bits.

Here's to a happy and healthy new year for all of us,

Cheers!

Jen.

Nice one Jen, seems like you've had an extremely successful and productive year with your modelling. I haven't as yet seen your first magazine article, but I'll be taking a look very soon now, well done on getting there in the end! You've certainly got a varied and impressive list of builds completed during the year.

Always look forward to seeing your build threads!, and especially the finished products! Keep up all the good work!

Here's to another good one next year!

Karl.

Sheesh, that really is a pretty impressive output for the year - not just in quantity, but in quality as well! The standard on them all is consistently high, and something you can be well pleased with.

Kudos on getting an article published, it's always a great sense of achievement! I'm surprised they didn't send you a complimentary copy, unless they don't do that for reviews, and only for full articles instead.

Of them all, I'd say the Wildcat is my favourite followed by the Wessex.

Cheers from NZ

Top stuff every one Jen :goodjob:

Any chance we can see the SR.53? Got an Eastern European copy of the Airfix kit and it's gonna need a lot of work! I know your build will be inspirational ;)

And, how does Mr Desmojen feel about this? :suicide:

He might not know exactly how many were, ahem, aquired............

Jen. :innocent:

P.S. It's Vinces fault anyway, that bargain box I bought had 46 kits in it! :o
