Nigel Bunker
I recall seeing a picture somewhere of an Ar 196 in British markings, possibly a war prize an I think it may have been at Felixstowe. I have the Revell 72 kit (ex Heller) and would like to finish it in these markings, if only I could remember where I saw it. Can anybody help? Dave Fleming
In addition to the pic in drdave's link, one was later painted in a light grey (?) colour scheme, with the "VM7**" (either VM748 or VM761, can't recall which, but suspect the former) serial under the wings - there is a photo in Tim Mason's recent book on the MAEE Edited November 3, 2011 by Dave Fleming
Seahawk
On p.6 of Phil Buttler's War Prizes - The Album there's a photo taken at Sullum Voe of the Ar 196A-2 the Norwegians captured from the Germans and later brought to the UK. Dark pic, not a lot to be deduced from it except the rudder was striped (RAF or Norwegian colours?) and on the starboard side of the fuselage there seems to be a large light-coloured rectangle taking up much of the space below the pilot's cockpit. No fuselage or underwing roundel visible. Edited November 3, 2011 by Seahawk
Dave Fleming
The stripes are Norwegian colours and I think the 'white rectangle' is a notice/placard rather than painted on the aircraft
