HMS Dreadnought

1/350 Etch set

Recently arrived from White Ensign Models, this new etch set is for the Zvezda HMS Dreadnought. Whilst it the kit was a very welcome addition to those of us who build in 1/350 there was plenty to add to make the completed model even better. White Ensigns Peter Hall has provided another fabulous set to be able to do this.

The set comes on two sheets of relief etch brass in their usual very sturdy reinforced envelope. The first sheet is 290mm x 120mm whilst the second sheet is 260mm x 120mm.

Sheet 1 gives you all the etched railings that are required to fit out the entire ship. Some are of the specific size for the areas there are designed to fit, whilst there are several lengths of generic railing which will need to be cut to size by the modeller. Also included on this sheet are inclined and vertical ladders, accommodation ladders and parts for the masts, such as spar footropes. There are many parts that go towards enhancing the 12 pounder guns and their mounts and the ships main crane, which gets a complete makeover. Lastly the miscellaneous items include the sea boat boarding ladders, W/T Aerial screens and torpedo net tops.

Sheet 2 provides the modeller not only with additional details for items such as the ships boats, doors, hatches and anti-torpedo nets, but also parts for various periods of the ships life, whether as she was built or after her refit in 1915. These include cabins and mast starfish and platforms. To use these parts references should be consulted. A nice touch are the separate letters for the ships name on the stern and the new ships wheel.

Conclusion

Another very nice set from the hands of Mad Pete with many usual and unusual items. I'm really looking forward to using this set on my example of the Zvezda kit.
