Muzz
I've finally manage to finish my Airfix Buccaneer, although not completely finished as I still need to add intake and exhaust blanks so you'll need to ignore the lack of intake interior! It's the Airfix kit with Neomega cockpit and Model Alliance decals. Used Gunze paints for the first time and will be using them more often from now on. From looking at the photo's I also need to tone down the seats as there looking a bit bright. All comments welcome.................. Julien
You Bucc looks great. One observation I would make is that the seats are far to low. Hers one I took at Finningley back in 89 I think. Julien
Davidf66
That's a really nice looking Bucc, I take my hat off to you for producing such a fine model as it's definitely not the easiest, best fitting kit ever created. I made one of these years ago in Desert Storm markings, used the Neomega cockpit and Eduard brass sets. With regards to the seats, I'm certainly no expert but they look O.K to me. I believe that they could be adjusted in height and for an a/c with a closed canopy they seem to be O.K. Looking at the pic of the real thing, it looks like the crews heads would be squashed under the canopy if it was closed and the navigators head would be above the blast shield. Like I said, I'm no expert and I'm sure there's someone who's a Bucc guru that could say for certain.
Muzz
Thanks for all the comments, it does take a bit of putting together as well as a wee bit of filler, this is my second one I've built so knew what to expect, the airbrakes were the worst part, took a wee while to get them right. I have the Heritage intakes too but chickened out on using them! I've got another in the stash that I may use them on. I wondered about the seats myself but there not fixed in place yet so I'll be able to sort them out, need to get some more Matt varnish on them anyway! A two tone grey one next I think but need someone to some decals of the stencils!
buccymad
i wish people would stop flapping about building this kit ,its totally doable. as you have just proven. i cant see any visible joints on your build and you seem to have captured the essence of the "brick"very well there are minor flaws in the kit which have been covered in previous builds (and i can say that for every one i have built as well),the problem is that almost every airframe had some minor modification and trying to tie them to one specific airframe is almost impossible see here to see what i mean (worth a look around, fascinating site) a few points if you don't mind, the paint has a solid demarcation to it unless you are inches away ,even then it is a very fine spray so i use white tack for the line masking to give a solid break between colours the vortex generators on the wing ,the 5th one from inboard working out to the tip needs to be removed the seats are too low ,just look at the front seat in relation to the front canopy frame its almost parallel to the top of the seat (do you know the seats are specific to the front and back cokpits?) same for the back seat ,up to the back bulkhead ,it is REALLY cramped with the canopy closed ,giving only a few inches clearance from the perspex and thats without a bone dome!! the list goes on and on,suffice to say that if you tried to incorporate every detail you would never get the kit finished ,we can only strive to make a passable rendition of this great aircraft and you have done this kit credit . one of the better builds that i have seen i would be happy with this in my display cabinet p.s i dont claim to be an eggspert or a rivet counter ,just loved this aircraft since i was a sprog!! SkippyBing
Re the seats, from pictures it appears fairly common for them to be raised and lowered depending on what was being done. I think it actually had to be quite low to line the pilot's head up with the attack sight or for catapult launches for no obvious reason I can think of:
Rabspat
That is amazing, having never actually built a bucc you make want to look for one now.
Matt G
Beautiful work on what I understand is a challenging kit (haven't built one myself yet!). Great model of a classic aircraft. Cheers Matt

Navy Bird
Beautiful Brick! You've done a great job with the camoflage scheme. Which Gunze paints did you use? I'm a huge fan of Gunze myself, just marveous stuff, both Mr. Color and the Aqueous line. Cheers, Bill
Mike DeTorrice
A top-grade job on your Buccaneer ! What a handsome aircraft and well shown off in this 1/48 model form. Mike
Muzz
Thanks again for all the comments folks, can't believe I forgot about the vortex generators, I knew about that too I should have left the hinge inspection doors of the wings too but was basically too lazy to do it and wanted to crack on with the build as every build I do usually takes ages! Bill, I used the Aqueous Hobby Colour range, RAF dark green and dark sea grey, lightened in spots for weathering, as I say it's the first time I used them and was really happy with how they went on, my range of colours has since grown! I'm currently building a Jaguar GR3 and wishing they had RAF Dark Camoflauge Grey in their range as I've had problems with the colour I'm using. Got some of their polishable metaliser paints too but not tried them yet. Murray
Mark
I managed to finish one years ago after they first came out. Challenging but rewarding are the memories I have! Bet you're proud of yours though, you should be!
