David_in_Fremont
If that one goes together as nicely as the Mk.Vb from Tamiya you're in for a very enjoyable build! My one suggestion is to glue the upper wing surfaces to the fuselage first and then add the bottom. Like I didn't. Have fun!

Antoine
I've decided to get rid of two/three half-build kit that are waiting in their boxes. Here is where I restart:
Antoine
I'm working on small parts, that will beglued latter, after painting. The screw, finished and varnished. Propeller tips are yellow, RLM04 to keep things easy. Blade are black Hub alu. the spinner is PRU pink. My "recette" is 5 drop of flat white tamiya (Much easier to use than gunze's), and a touch of red. DIfficult to see with the light... The undercart. Antoine
Some difficulties with the PR canopy. Not that easy to cut.... I've butchered it a little... Masking. You really need a new cutter blade. The aft part, masked and in place. And the front... I've glued one side after the other. There are still some huge gaps, but I'll rework it once everything is dry, with some little putty rolls. Let's hope it'll work...
Gary C
Considering thats a vac canopy I'd say it's not a bad fit, just needs a bit of milliput. Watching with interest.
Antoine
Hi Gary, First time I use a vac canopy. It's true that it looks nearly ok (!) on the pic, and I'm nearly surprised, as I've seen it nearly all the afternoon long with my magnifying glass in front of the eyes! And then, it has an ugly look, with great big gaps. The putty is on, let's see tomorrow if I get some honourable result.
Antoine
As there is to my knowledge no ready to use PRU pink available on the market, I did my own mixture, using tam XF2 flat white (9/10), and gunze H19 (1/10), straight on the airbrush. Does it seems PRU pink enough to your eyes?
Tony Whittingham
Hello Antoine, I was given a recipe for PR pink sometime in March/April. I will see if I can find the post
Nick Belbin
Could be wrong – but does it need the gunsight mount?
Test Graham
The monitor may be exaggerating, but possibly too pink. You want an off-white.
Antoine
Could be wrong – but does it need the gunsight mount? Ahem.... Should be under the masking tape... At least I hope... Or did I slaughter it some months ago? I may have sacrified it to the carpet monster, too... Even if I have no carpet. Well, I truly don't know, we'll see tonight, when I take the tape off. Tony Whittingham
Hello Antoine,I was given a recipe for PR pink sometime in March/April. I will see if I can find the post Found It. The recipe is 1/4 roundel red to 3/4 white, plus a touch of light gray to tone it down. ( thank again to Christian)
Doug Rogers
Nice to see one of the rarer Spitfire variants Antoine, looking forward to the result.
Antoine
Found It.The recipe is 1/4 roundel red to 3/4 white, plus a touch of light gray to tone it down. ( thank again to Christian) Are you really sure? 1/4 roundel red should give something too much pink, I think. I thought the PRU pink was nearly white. Antoine
The monitor may be exaggerating, but possibly too pink. You want an off-white. The pic was taken in late afternoon, just before a storm, and without much daylight, only interior light. The kit is much clearer in good daylight. Seahawk
Starting this one today. By the way, if you subsequently get tempted into doing that rather fetching Spitfire R7335 of 718 Sq, FAA, pse note that the code should read G3K on both sides, G3*K on the RHS and almost certainly G*3K (not K*G3) on the LHS. FAA codes comprise 3 elements and almost invariably read in the same order on both sides, as opposed to RAF codes where there can be discretion about how the 2-element squadron code and the individual a/c code are displayed (eg AA*B, B*AA, *AA-. Same mistake made in the instructions to the Seafire (is it 06B?) in the Airfix 1/72 FAA special issue. set. Nick

But as far as I know, there are no conversion at the moment for a XIII.
Antoine
Well, after a coat of klir, the masking tape is off, and the overall look is not too bad in the end. But.... The canon's battery are down! So, more pics tomorrow.
ollieholmes
Im looking forward to seing more progress on this one. I would like to build some of the PR Spitfires but the Airwaves conversions seem hard to get hold of.
Antoine
I still have those for the PRIV, PR1G, and PR1F, I'd get them from hannants.
Antoine
The mask on the canopy is off. I was afraid to discover the result, as I thought the mask has been damaged during the putty/sanding session. But in the end, it looks quite fine. I must admit that the result is not really to notch, but still, bearing in mind that its a rhodoïd canopy, I'm pleased with it I'll maybe try to cure the seam between the windshield and the fuselage with some basic masking, and then putty/sanding again, but I'm afraid to get a worst result.
