BaronVonDuncs
Ok so I have been working on my Airfix BF109 E4 kit and I got the paint on and put a coat of varnish on (Lakeland Quickshine) then I put on the decals using micro set and sol. They all looked fine and nice and flat with no bubbles. So then I put another coat of varnish on prior to weathering and some of the larger decals have developed little lumps/bubbles on them. I cant seem to flatten them out at all. I have tried pricking them with a pin but they seem to be more lumps than bubbles. Is this unevenness in the lower surface coming through? or did i do something wrong to cause this? Anyway to rectify it or i am stuck with it. Giorgio N
If the lower surface is the culprit, then you'll feel the bumps under your fingers. If so, there's little you can do I fear. However I'd expect bumps of that size would have been visible before decalling, and you say the decal was flat initially. What might have happened is that the paint below the decals separated from the plastic for some reason. Instead of using a pin you can try to cut carefully through the "bubbles" with a very sharp knife. After that you can apply small drops of future under the lifted spots and press these down again. At worst, if some damage occurs, or if the whole paint lifts, you can use a small brush and some black paint to touch up the decal.
brodders1997
Hi what i would do is pop the bubbles gently with a pin (or anything sharp) and then put some micro sol (or similar) into the popped bubbles, always helps for me. Hope this helps
