Tamiya p51D 1/32

That looks like one hell of a kit think I might have to treat myself good luck with the rest of the build.

Do it. You won't regret it (I came back into modelling thinking that I wouldn't be interested in doing a mustang - the aeroplane just doesn't grab me you know, but this has been the most fun build I have done so far)

Think I will get one I was going to go for the Tamiya Fiesler Storch but the Mustang for an extra £50 or so looks like it will keep me busy for months and months with all that detail you can put into it.

Cheers

Small update.

The silver is on. I used Humbrol spraycan - metalcote polished aluminium

Up next, the blue on the nose

Thanks Mish

Masked up ready for the blue. I did this by taping the engine covers on, taped out the shape, cut the tape between the panels and then masked up. Went overkill on masking, but better that than having blue where I don't want it (also such a small area on the fuselage which will be painted blue).

Under carraige bays basically completed,

THe wiring looks better in person (these pics make it look a bit over sized

Not far off finishing her. Just need to do a bit with the drop tanks and a couple of extra bits of wiring to the engine.

Excellent build!

What type of blue do you use?

Thanks guys. The blue is a mix of Tamiya XF-8 (Flat blue) and X14 (Sky Blue) which resulted in the glossy blue seen in the pics (the ratio was 1 XF-8 to 3 X14)

Did some of the decals last night, starting to come together now.

Last night I progressed on the fuel tanks

Decided to add some piping

The tanks pre holes drilled and tubes added

Model is decalled and ready for final bits to finish. Rather annoyingly the 414 on one side of the tail has rubbed off (even after having 2 coats of Klear on it!!)
