Cyberhobby Falklands War Anniversary

Well looks like Dragon in the CyberHobby wing have taken the first step with a new 30th Anniversary of the Falklands War with reissues of the 1/700 Invincible, Sheffield & Trafalgar, however they are also doing a new mould 1/700 HMS Amazon Type 21 Frigate and a pair of Sea Kings in 1/72nd.

I might even pay the (probably) extortionate price for the Junglie...... I stress might! Was hoping Airfix would do one so I could afford it.

Edit, forgot to say that one of my favourite ships was the Airfix Amazon, did three or four of them when I was little.

Pity the Seaking AEW was not built till after the Falkland's conflict. Still I will get my hands on a few when they it the shelves.

Actually they were converted and tested during the war, the project originally went back to the late 60's and was dusted off and pushed into use in a very short time, so its valid.

HMS Trafalgar on the otherhand didn't enter service until 1983 so more representative of the British SSN threat. Considering the simplicity of SSN kits as shown by Hobbyboss perhaps they could have tried to do a Swiftsure class or better yet HMS Conqueror ;)

I hate to think on the price for the HC4!!

Revell Sea King = £20 upwards

Airwaves HC4 conversion = £20 upwards

So I guess £40 and we break even?

It`ll be interesting to see how much Cyberhobby price the Squeakings up at, could be tempted as long as its not to high.

Yes there is the Revell Squeaking but i`ve not seen one anywhere except Evilbay in awhile now.

Not to nit pick but actually I am correct as the Seaking AEW did not actually come into full commision till 1985 in a operational capability, there were 2 modified HAS.2(AEW) rush jobs that were sent quickly down south after the war was over with 824 D flight so they are not valid Falkland veterans. The 2 HAS.2(AEW) were virtually prototypes and were not fully capable of the role and so they were returned to be converted to proper AEW standards then they join the rest of the AEW fleet later on.

Sheffield was the one that was sunk right ? Brand new ship and lost on it's first outing ? The sounds of National Geographic Channel are rumbling through my head but memory is so fallible that I thought I'd check

Yes, she was the one sunk, but not really brand new, first commissioned in 1975.

Hi Guys

A couple of things to add to a subject close to my heart.

1. Yes your right Windy, the West African detachment didn't have the AEW Mk2 until after the end of the conflict.

2. The Sheff had actually been part of the Armilla Patrol when the hostilities had broken out having been in service for a few years. She and a few Type 21's went from the Middle East straight to Gibraltar for a war re-fit, sailing with the lead task force south.

3. Lets hope the Cyberhobby guys get it right and don't model the South American Type 21 in the press release. The missing Exocet and RN radar are the obvious mistakes.

4. An opportunity missed in not releasing a 48th Wessex V. With three times the Wessex operating down south during the war (even after the AC sunk) on Squadrons like 845, 847, 848 and the RFA flights it would have been good to remember an overlooked helicopter in a scale that would help represent the true magic of this aircraft. XS516 was a great machine that ran and ran.

Sorry, rant over I will crawl back in my hole now.

HMS Amazon?

I thought that she didn't deploy to the South Atlantic.

Or do they mean class Amazon?

Anywway, it seems to be a nice set.

They mean Amazon class, AFAIK HMS Amazon went down with Illustrious to relieve the Task Force ships. I suspect they have just used a stock photo of the Type21 which represents the ship as in current use by the Pakistan navy rather than a 1982 era photo in RN service. hopefully they will include decals for all 8 ships of the class along with the optional Exocet fit.

You mean Pakistan not South America? All remaining Type 21's went to the Pakistan navy. The photo is a Pakistan example so lets really hope they have modelled the RN version.

I am not really a ship guy but as a cadet HMS Active was our addopted ship so i would really like a model of a Type 21.

Also I can understand putting HMS Trafalger in the box? Surley HMS Conqueror ! if they were putting a sub in there.

Gentlemen,

If anyone is looking for 1/700 Churchill class subs (or even Oberons and Upholders) and even Type 209's try here:

Great little resin kits!
