The best scribing tool

Afternoon all,

I'm slowly getting into the scribing lark, I find it strangely therapeutic!!

I've got a tamyia scribe tool which seems fairly good for lines and gentle curves. I also bought a cheap pen type scribe from eBay, this was a bit of a punt as it's for metal and doesn't work so well on plastic! What I'm after is suggestions for the best tool people use to scribe the smaller panels, that tend to be rounded or even full circles. I have some scribe templates but find the tamyia tool unwieldy in these areas.

Any advice welcome!

Phil

just had a compass that I did not need anymore, the drill bit I got from work, does me fine, I did buy a scriber from the USA, I cannot think of the name though, but is very good but not ideal for smaller stuff though

MDC do a nice tool for scribing that I use for rivets and panels with internal curves. It's basically a finely pointed bodkin in a wooden handle, and it's great for using with those scribing templates. I have all manner of tools for scribing, but that's what I use with my LionRoar templates. The MDC tool also has another needle with a hollow point for recessed rivets, and comes with a couple of PE rules with guides for rivet pitch if you use it for that. I also crash-formed a lens for a searchlight over the handle once ^_^

The one for fine detail is the bare metal foil scriber, hand finished small hook on the end, £9.50 each

That's BMF one I was rambling on about on another scribing thread :) Or was it my Supermarine 224 thread? :hmmm:
