Recommended Posts

Rob, that's an absolutely lovely model, she looks stunning in silver!!

Thanks for the Youtube links too, I've just spent a happy half hour wallowing in nostalgia - those were the days!!

Keef

alright keef mate. well im glad you approve its so nice to get such a huge amount of positive feedback they should rename this website prozak modeller. brilliant stuff.

and those vids i came accross this week its hard to find footage of vulcans that are not xh558 and those vids are jems particularly nice the waddo circuits vid were im sure you can hear and see looking at the cans at the back 200 and 300 series vulcans. whoever filmed it in such high quality for the time deserves a medal its as good as time travel you would get. im not young enough to remember the 70s but if there was a time machine i think the first thing i would do would be to go back to the 50s/60s/70s/80s to waddington sit in the back of a landrover with a flask of tea and some sandwiched, (and take a hd camcorder with me.) brilliant.

Rob, it was XA894 that had the afterburning engine, it carried the test Olympus 22R the engine proposed for the TSR2, which was flown at the Farnborough show in full reheat. Sadly the aircraft was burned out at Filton during a test run at full power, (an LP turbine disc decided to make a break for freedom , rupturing some fuel lines and destroying the aircraft and a nearby new fire tender, it transpired that the LP turbine disk had been ejected from the engine. But not before first travelling around the strengthened bomb bay carving open two 150-gallon stainless steel fuel tanks in its progress out. It exited the airframe and hit the ground shedding what remained of the turbine blades, which bouncing back up like shrapnel, puncturing each wing tank. The disk itself ripped a ten foot gash in the port wing leading edge before proceeding east, in great 150 foot bounces; the marks of its passage were clearly visible on the ground and it finally came to rest just short of the T188 supersonic research aircraft being prepared for a test flight.

XA894 in happier times,

hi there melchie thats great info and photos there. well quite sad photos at the end. thanks for that

and the first photo the wing tips are kind of like how i was describing to yo in the pm. they look narrower and more rounded than other b1s.

did you look at the video links i put at the bottom of page one i suggest you check them out it really is worth it. cheers rob

Rob, My late father flew in 891 many times in the mid/late fifties out of Woodford on development work so it's good to see it modelled so well.

Hi there now that is fantastic all the more worth while to make a model that someone can appreciate on a personal level made my day that. wonderfull cheers for the reply and i notice it says your new here so a warm welcome to you its a great site have fun all the best rob

I adore the B1 and you have really done her justice. A cracking job.

glad to know im not the only one i love all vulcans but i absolutley "love" b1s they just look so perfect asethticly all the lines of her looks amazing i love the the way that everything tapers out small and smooth like the tail cone and exausts. i love the smaller wing shape too and little intakes

im the same way with other british planes. i find the bucc s1 hunter mk1 lightning mk1, spit mk1, harrier gr1 all for the same reasons. and others victor too.

not anything wrong with the other mks just nice to see a plane in its orginal as designed from before mods etc.

like for example on a b2 vulcan you i look at it and then when you get to the tail cone, its obvious that was thought of afterwards,.

the plane has gained a swelling looks like,

Hi Rob, You've more than dine it justice, you've made a cracker and brought back some childhood memories for which I thank you. We lived near Ringway AP in Cheshire and that's not too far from Avro's at Woodford. We used to hang off the end of runway fence during the school summer holidays. The Vulcan B1's used to come and to touch and go's day after day. Thanks for the memories and sharing your pics.

Hi Rob, You have to give it to Frog, for the day they did make good kits, I recently finished a Wyvern and a Scimitar and have a Wessex 1 on the go (back burner) plus a Sea Venom and Sea Vixen in the stash.

What a beautiful job! Well done! I actually saw one of these Frog Vulcan kits a few years back at a flea market. I had no idea it was such a collector's item, or could be built into such a nice model. Now I'm kicking myself for not buying it. I think they only wanted ten bucks...

Cheers,

Bill

You sure do I could not believe that it had recessed panell lines which is very interesting being a b1 there totally different too the b2 and as no b1s exist a good source for doing and airfix rescribe. I love frog kits also they made the planes I want to build I have the same ones you mention in the stash plus fd2 and a gorgeous dh hornet . Cheers rob

Fantastic Vulcan & nice to see it built & not stashed :worthy: you can see why Frog in the day were regarded as the mutts nuts.... she's a beaut....

Andy.

Hi there smuts totally agree with you there they were awsome kits that they knocked out so sad the moulds were lost at sea or whatever it was that happened to them.

Im guessing that they may have been the first to offer recessed panel lines i dont know if thats true but from my experience its sure unusual for a kit from the 50s or 60s to have that feature.

i wish they were not so rare cause there a nice scale and lovely to build

im sure there are many others who would make them too given the chance.

it would be nice to see 1/96th be a new scale for people like airfix to work to a nice halfway house between 72nd and 144th
