jimbuna
That is very effective/realistic looking.
Antoine
It's not really a speedy build, but... I've finished the Neptun treatment. Everything is dry, not too realistic for the moment, but I'll work on it this week end.
Mike
It's gone a bit orangey, hasn't it? What're you going to do to tone it down? A bit of a rub? Pigment washes? Both?
Antoine
Yes, Mike, but maybe it's the different light, compared to other pics here. I've just bought another desk light. I've already tried a bit of rub, and even with the under coat of metal, it doesn't seems to work very well, and I don't want to ruin everything. I'll go for a wash, I think, and pigments are a good idea too. But I'll also apply some drybrush, and some graphit (?) powder.
Mike
Yes - graphite powder would be useful to return a sheen to the contact patches - I use an artist's pencil (a thick pencil made entirely of graphite). Maybe a wash of diluted oils or enamels to deepend the shadows, but that's usually applied over a satin/glossy surface Incidentally, a rather kind chum gave me his Deluxe Materials rust set, and the results are quite nice... less of the orangy rust, and more mid tones. It is quite grainy though, so only of real use on really rusty things like exhaust pipes or derelicts.
Antoine
About the different shades, you can play with the activator, less volume, less brushing, less effect, as simple as that.
Mike
I think it's the same with the Deluxe set, as it gets rustier where the liquid pools. TBH, I think the powder is some kind of ferric/iron filings , and the binder is PVA, but I'm not entirely sure what the activator would be to cause that kind of fast rust to bloom. That comes from knowing nothing about chemistry
smuts
Very nice so far... Andy.
Antoine
Wash + off the masks + metal drybrush. The result is not really nice, but it suits me well for now. I'll see once the tracks are on if corrections are needed. Close-up to show you the rust texture.

Antoine
Thanks. I think it's a bit too much for the tracks, though.
Learstang
Thanks.I think it's a bit too much for the tracks, though. Perhaps, Antoine. Wouldn't a bit of a dark wash help take care of that? Otherwise looking very nice! I was watching some old Soviet film last night - those BT-7's could really move! Regards, Jason
foxy
Well your right on the tracks, but thats what experimenting mean's,'is it not'. Close up picture shows it rusted, but others show it workable.!!!!! Anyway, great work so far Edited April 12, 2012 by foxy

Otherwise looking very nice! I was watching some old Soviet film last night - those BT-7's could really move! Already done, but it didn't have realy an effect. For the moment, I'll concentrate on the hull + turret weathering, and then go on working (slowly) on a future diorama.
