C-130J Lockheed Model

Recommended Posts

Here's something a bit different, I was given this a couple of weeks ago at work. It belongs to a Loadmaster who won it in a raffle. He wants to give it to his dad but was dismayed by the USAF markings on it (as you would be)

Luckily for him, one of his mates knows me and brought it in for a quick repaint!

The models are made for Lockheed Martin and given away by them. Considering this you might think they'd do a better job of it! It's made of wood with white metal for the props and spinners. The spinners were held in very crude brass pipe arrangements to enable them to spin. When I eventually prised them out it was very obvious to me that I'd never get them back in, so I stuck the spinners on and carved the nacelles down to fit them.

I had to sand the USAF decals right off because they showed through the paint otherwise. The panel lines were made from decals as well but there was so much paint on it that I was able to scribe the lines into the paint

I whacked a good coat of Xtracrylix 241 dark green on and pieced a set of decals together from the spares box. The walkway lines were drawn on with a Gundam marker and then a coat of flat base in Klear added.

I had to strip the metal props because I'd cracked all the paint when I was pulling them out of the spinners, luckily it wasn't stuck very wel! These were sprayed white, masked, sprayed red, masked again and sprayed black..........................so....many....props....... :hypnotised:

Anyway, here's the finished article, nice flash photography again because it's going back tomorrow. The flash always makes the mattcoat look wierd and white. It doesn't look like that with the naked eye, promise.
