I put a pre-order on the 1:48 X-wing some months ago, and it looks like they're ready to fulfil my order, as I've just had the request to pay. I'm all excited!!! :yahoo:

  • 5 weeks later...

Just ordered mine from luckymodel - US$44. Is that a good price?

The plan is to wire it up with some nice LED engine exhausts and cockpit panels... if my eyesight can take it!

I'm still waiting for my 1/72nd X-wing to arrive from HLJ. Quite looking forward to getting my hands on that one, even though it's titchy!

I'm sure you'll like it, it's a super little kit. I've done some sub-assemblies on mine (wings, laser cannon, exhausts) and it goes together pretty nicely too. The only point I've found so far that you may need to watch out for is the rear fuselage, just behind the wings - where the upper & lower halves meet, there seems to be a small gap, but it might just be my sample, cos no-one else has complained about it!

Well I will say that everyone should read Mikes review because if it is what I think it wil be, everyone will want to grab a 1/48 X Wing!! Mine is just beautiful but, there are a few points of weakness that Mike will no doubt point out. It is a great value for the price especially considering its not really that much more than the 1/72 kit.

Cheers

I just wish they'd scaled up the decal sheet from the 1/72 version, with markings for 4 different X-Wings, including pilot's helmets and droids. Oh well, just have to hand paint Biggs's chequers. Anyone know how to sculpt a 1/48 porn-star moustache?

It's a pretty nice kit, but on mine, I think I'm gonna lengthen the nose a bit and try and do something with the canopy as well ( the rear half of it has an odd upwards angle which makes it look..........well, odd :hypnotised: ).

I was thinking of doing mine as Red 3 as well Jiff. If you need any ref pics, let me know. ;)

Thanks Paul. I've got a few pics myself, in the SW Fact Files (partwork), Technical Journal, Art of SW Ep IV, SW Archives and SW Chronicles. Biggs's ride features quite prominently. Conversely, Luke's Red 5 is hardly featured at all, so if you have any decent pics of that I'd bite your hand off!

Hmm, they only seem to be red x's at the moment. Could be cos I'm using the work computer, I'll have another look when I get home tonight.

Now that's weird. As soon as this reply was posted, the red x's changed to pictures. Thanks Paul, they'll be really useful. I might even re-start my Fine Molds 1/72 X-Wing this weekend (housework and DIY can wait!).
