Paul A H
Eduard photo etch WWII IJN Watertight Doors 1:700 Eduard Prior to the creation of the 1:700 Water Line series by the Shizuoka Plastic Model Manufacturers Association (Aoshima, Hasegawa and Tamiya) in 1971, there wasn’t really a standard scale for the modeller of maritime subjects. Since the adoption of 1:700 scale however, the range of subjects available has been ever-growing and now includes all manner of vessels from the pre-dreadnought era to the present day. Unsurprisingly, given the Japanese origins of the scale, Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) subjects are particularly well served by manufacturers from the land of the rising sun. To complement the range of kits available, Eduard have developed a range of etch sets for IJN subjects, the latest of which is this handy set of watertight doors. Included in the pack is a range of different doors, some of which are presented in both open and closed configuration. This is a particularly nice feature for those modellers that like to go to town on detailing their ships. All are produced to the usual high standard that we have come to expect from Eduard. Although I haven’t counted them, there must be well over a hundred pieces in this set, which should be enough for a small flotilla. Conclusion This is a great little set for modellers of 1:700 ships and will come in particularly handy for those kits for which a dedicated photo etch set isn’t available. Recommended.
