Basosz
I'm rather torn between two kits here. I have the excellent Tamiya 1:72 Warbirds Collection P-47D Razorback which looks very tasty... and I have the Academy 1:48 P-47D Bubbletop which I gather has wonky decals? I like the bigger scale of the Academy but I'm a bit worried about the decals. Are they really that bad? I've never built an Academy kit before so this could be a first. AnonymousDFB1
Academy don't have the best reputation for decals, that why most people swap them for after market ones.
lampie
I think I'm going to have to loose my Britmodeller Group Build virginity. The 3 month time frame is a bit daunting for me but it may be just the excuse I need to kick my backside into gear and get 3 done for 2011! Do I need to register anywhere Mish? lampie
normally we just start a thread in the build section mate Cheers Mark, sprues washed and drying as I type this. Lampie,I need info on the second bird down the line in the picture I posted in this thread.Anything will be "mal" appreciated! Not much I'm afraid. Its 361st FS, 356thFG and its either QI-Nbar or QI-Hbar. Theres a few photos of this 361st line up in the Schiffer book on the 356th. Only one of these shows the sharkmouth P-47, but I would be very suprised if there aren't more photos of this line up knocking around. Couldn't see anything on LF, but try asking on 12OCH. I would also recommend contacting the Martlesham Heath Aviation Society. They are extremely helpfull and have a wonderfull museum housed in the control tower. Occasionally you see them shut though. Nige http://p47.kitmaker.net/ http://56thfightergroup.co.uk/

Basosz
If anyone needs a walk around: Walkaround P-47 The wheelbays on the second plane are incredibly clean. Actually, everything is clean on that plane. Can I assume that a used bird is slightly more dirty?

Actually, everything is clean on that plane. Can I assume that a used bird is slightly more dirty? Thanks for that walkaround link, I was looking at the tailwheel parts in the Sword kit and wondering which way to go and now I know - very timely! As for real aeroplanes in use - yep! They get very mucky - at least the ones I worked on did! Wez

_H_
Ahhgh!!! I've been trying so hard to resist this group build and now I've bought two Academy D's from modelzone, two sets of Eduard etch, the mushroom book on the bubble top and my friend Lawrence has given me the aeromaster 405th decal set Guess I'll be starting it later then! stevehnz
Am I too late to join in? It won't be flash, 1/72 Academy bubble top Eileen & if the decals turn to worms on me it probably won't get done. OK? Steve.

erikmuntz
Hello, Being new to Britmodeller, I'm just feeling around and found this. (confession, I'm American. Shhhh) Anyway, I just bought the Tamiya P-47 and it will be only my third model. My first being a Hasegawa Bf-109E-3 and the second an Accurate Miniatures P-51B. The latter is much better but I still have a long way to go. I just bought a Paasche Talon after my old airbrush (15 dollars worth) broke. I'm a frequent on Hyperscale but like this format a little better. I'll still visit both often, though. How do you post pictures? Thanks in advance.
