kspriss
hi Mark. Picked this up on http://forum.scramble.nl/viewtopic.php?f=4...107&start=0 According the official RAF-Red Arrows site, Red 4 is Hawk T1 XX308, and should be ´Eggmans´- aircraft. XX308 Joined the Team in 1985 – Red 4 Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging & Circus 4 Corporal Scott Aston Serial not confirmed yet. steve Edited August 22, 2011 by kspriss

roys
I was surprised by the age of the aircraft but compared to a lot of other stuff they are not old. My father , former aircraft designer/stressman etc once said to me he thought it was a disgrace that the Canberra was still in service for the length of time that it was and that all the rivets would be turning in flight! Would be interested if anybody could point out anything on the internet that would shed some light on the subject of airframe life.

Bobski
I'm pretty certain it was XX308 - I remember from seeing the Reds at RIAT and made a note of it because Jon Egging used to be a cadet at my old ATC squadron (2028). I'm also planning to build a couple of Red 4s as a tribute - one for me and one for 2028 Sqn. Are there any 2011 Red Arrows decals available? Scarlet
From Fighter Control: - The Ministry of Defence also confirmed Flt Egging was not flying his regular aircraft, but XX179, a member of the team for nine years, which was officially assigned to Red 5, Flt Kirsty Moore.A spokesman said: “Red Arrows aircraft are routinely swapped between team pilots throughout the display season.” UK Serials website has also been updated showing XX179 as being written off on 20/8/11. Bobski
How do the decals for the 2011 Red Arrows differ from those in the Revell 1:32 boxing? Most of the markings are unchanged. I was thinking about pilot and crew names, if they were indeed carried.

Harrierpilot
On the Revell 1/32nd scale decal sheet they have only put Red 1's name on it has everybody who makes a model/decal sheet for the Team. Putting all the Team's names would make the decal sheet more expenive Xtradecal produced a decal sheet (72-085) with the No.4 FTS "roundel" display jet and the No.19 Squadron "Spitfire" Hawk T1 & Spitfire Mk1 along wth the Red arrows new markings
F3 Demon
I believe that Flt Lt Jon Egging's aircraft was XX308, but I understand that the Reds have done quite a bit of swapping of there aircraft around lately and Flt Lt Jon Egging was flying XX179 on that fatal day of the crash. Recently at Cromer Carnival *RED 1* flew a black painted 100 Squadron coded 'CA'. XX260. Hope this helps. Ian
