Thanks for the kind words lads. Was loosing the interest with this one for a while after a couple stupid mistakes but seeing her with the decals on helped get the enthusiasm back and now working on the various components of her display stand.

Giorgio - Used Dremel type tool with a piece of piano-wire and some needle files to get the basic shape then finish with a smooth grade wet-and-dry paper. Took a while to do but feel it was worth the effort. In a previous life I was able to use a proper lathe for this type of work but alas no longer have access to one.

Thanks lads.

Was hoping to get a photo of the Hawk mounted on the display stand yesterday but my little girl was ill yesterday so progress ground to a halt while I looked after her. Iona seems a bit better today but still tired so may use some of my day off to finish the stand. So far as I can tell from various reference photos the 4FTS Hawks were kept very clean so don't think I'll do any weathering on this one unless anyone can tell me otherwise.

nice job, 172 was written off a few years ago after a big birdstrike,I split it down for road transport , it now resides in Shawbury as uneconomical to repair.

one kit error I've spotted, the top panel behind canopy rear edge should have & has always had a straight forward edge, not a curved edge as in one of your earlier photo's

the short rear panel over the tail cone didn't last long, long ones were fitted to help with airflow & feel on the rudder.

Cheers for the kind words, information, ideas lads. Alas this one resides in the back of the display cabinet as I was never quite satisfied with how it turned out. Going to steal that idea for a background to the base though Merv. Was tempted to do another thread with a new build to catalogue and attempt fixes on all the errors so will make a note of that panel line and add it to the list Hawkkeeper.

normally kept as claen as practicable, but the wheelbays [main] get covered in general dirt & water when it rains during takeoff/landing, normal practice is to coat these aeras with PX32 Waxoyl type protective especially around the pipeline end fittings & any bolts/nuts. otherwise overtime being cad plated mild steel these corrode.

Thanks ExRaf. The red/gray/white is my favorite scheme as well even though I did make problems for myself with it. Now you lads are looking forward to seeing the stand finished I feel duty-bound to get it out of the cabinet and back to the bench.

So, Hawkkeeper, the PX32 will explain why some photos I've seen of the wheel bays have a yellow tinge to them. Every good day is a school day :D

the original protective used during the 80's & early 90's was called Anacode B, it was sprayed on & dried to a yellow tinged film over everything, after a few years it just falls off, IIRC it was withdrawn for use & PX32 aka Croda 151 used instead.

happy tp help.
