Saw this today at what seemed a ridiculously low price (less than £3) so wondered? (Same place has Spitfire Vb sets at the same price - where these 'one offs' for Hobbycraft, as this most certainly wasn't that shop!)

No names until I find out as I'm not having the BM Massive invade and loot the store !

I've recently just completed one of these with my 10yr old daughter (she wanted to make a model that was suitable for girls! So RA seemed the obvious weapon of choice).

I can't really comment Re, the moldings, but it seemed exactly the same as the one I remember doing with my son many moons ago.

Like yourself, what struck me funny was the "Gift Set" that included the paint, glue etc was £2.99, but the model alone was £7.99.

Maybe the 8 quid one was new molds? (just a wild stab in the dark)

Definitely old tool, I picked one up a while back. Still a great kit plus it comes with pylons, rocket pods, gun pack for the spares box.

Strange thing is, it is boxed as a Red Arrow but has no smoke pod

For £3 I'd probably buy it even if it is the old mould ! Probably worth for the weapons alone

Exactly! 5 x British 1000lb bombs, 4 SNEB pods, cannon pod. Not to mention some properly sized undercarriage doors.

Wouldn't be in such a rush about the Spitfire V. They are new transfers but not spectacularly good ones. See this thread:

I may be Very wrong on this, but I was not aware that Airfix were doing a new mould of the Hawk, I thought it was the Gnat that was being redone?

Or is it me?

The Hawk was retooled about 18 months ago in 1/72, both the T1 and the T2. They're lovely little kits too...

Selwyn, it was one of the very first new tools to come out under the new Hornby management. Have a look in the Hawk Group Build, there are a few of these being built (including mine).

IMHO it's an interesting kit with some nice and some not so nice features: the shape is very good and all the features of the Hawk are there although many are simplified. The panel lines are recessed but quite heavy and there's no distinction between panel lines and moveable surfaces, they are all the same depth. The cockpit has some structural details and ok seats but panels and consolles are flat for use with the decals provided (and the panels are the wrong shape). The canopy is nice, with recessed lines for the detonation chord. The landing gear is average, and the main wheels are not great. The front well is nice and deep, the main ones have details but are very shallow. The main landing gear doors are a joke, with a totally wrong shape. The fit is good in some areas but not great in others, especially when attaching the wing to the fuselage. I struggled a bit with this kit, more than I'd have expected from such a new tool.

All in all I rate this kit as a good base to work on. The "casual" modeller will be happy with it as is, the more "committed" modeller however will want to add some work to bring it up to a better level.

The kit is available in 3 boxes: Red Arrows T.1 (no pylons or weapons included but has the correct smoke pod), an armed T.1A (with pylons and weapons) and a T.2
