Shar2
Prinz Eugen 1/350 Etch sets The ever expanding range of etch set that Eduard are producing has recently been covering many maritime subjects. These two sets are for Trumpeters German Heavy Cruiser DKM Prinz Eugen. Unlike most other manufacturers, Eduard use, what looks like etched nickel instead of brass. Nonetheless the detail is excellent with relief etching giving an even more realistic effect to the parts. The main set consists of two sheets. The first covering the open watertight doors, inclined ladders, several platforms, funnel top and radar aerials. There are also smaller items like boat supports, searchlight faces and vertical ladders. The main parts of the second sheet give you a new catapult, more doors, platforms and supports, AA weapon shields and covered deck hatches. There are also numerous smaller parts to really go to town with. The second set gives all the railing required to complete your masterpiece. These are very finely done and made to measure for each section of the ship. The induced sag and places for the ladders correctly designed are a really nice touch. Conclusion I wasn't too sure about having to buy the two sets, but I guess it does give the modeller options on how detailed they would like to build this fabulous ship. Even if only the railing set were used, it would still help make for a nice model. Whereas using both sets gives you more than enough detail for something really special.
