Fifer54
North American PBJ-1J Mitchell. Built from the old Monogram 1/48 B-25J, in a Revell boxing. The wingtip radome was modified from a Revell F4U-5 kit radome. Build thread is here. Apologies for poor photos, this model was too big to photograph on the desk, so I had to use the dining table, which doesn't have the lighting that my desk has. AnonymousDFB1
Douglas SBD3 Dauntless S8 - Scouting 2VS2 USS LexingtonBattle of the Coral Sea 8th May 1942 This is the aircraft Lt(jg) William E Hall of Scouting Two, who was awarded the Medal of Honor, for his part in an Anti Torpedo Aircraft Patrol on 8th May 1942. Hall's official Medal of Honor citation reads: For extreme courage and conspicuous heroism in combat above and beyond the call of duty as pilot of a scouting plane in action against enemy Japanese forces in the Coral Sea on 7 and 8 May 1942. In a resolute and determined attack on 7 May, Lt. (j.g.) Hall dived his plane at an enemy Japanese aircraft carrier, contributing materially to the destruction of that vessel. On 8 May, facing heavy and fierce fighter opposition, he again displayed extraordinary skill as an airman and the aggressive spirit of a fighter in repeated and effectively executed counter-attacks against a superior number of enemy planes in which 3 enemy aircraft were destroyed. Though seriously wounded in this engagement, Lt. (j.g.) Hall, maintaining the fearless and indomitable tactics pursued throughout these actions, succeeded in landing his plane safe. Unfortunately 2-S-8 was so badly damaged she was pushed over the side of the 'Lex'.
