Python66 Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Hello, Right now I am trying to build a Westland Wessex. It will be a OOB with not extra's at all. Just a nice and simple build this time. I want to build the all green HMS London Flight. Italeri suggest I use FS 34079, ModelMaster 1710. But is this the correct color for the Westland ? Here are some pics from the build so far.
Python66 Posted August 11, 2011 Author Posted August 11, 2011 Just a little further with my Wessex. The canopy and all the glass masked off with Tamiya tape. Day before yesterday I primered and yesterday I added the pre-shading. It also received it first green layer. I used Tamiya FX-13 as the color. I hope to be spraying a few more layers of green tonight. Well, here are the pics of the Wessex so far.
Martian Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Try Xtracolour X028 RN Helicopter Olive Drab for the finish. Nice work BTW. Martin
Moofles Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 (edited) blimey coming along quickly, looking forward to the painting stage. Edited August 11, 2011 by Moofles
Harry Lime Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 It's a nice little kit OOB, builds up into a fair representation of the Wessex. I'd second the Xtracolor RN Helo Olive Drab. Mark.
Python66 Posted August 11, 2011 Author Posted August 11, 2011 Xtracolour X028 RN Helicopter Olive Drab I never used Xtracolour myself but found a few pics of helicopters wearing X028. I try to match it with the pics of the real Wessex and it looked to me the X028 is too green and not dark enough. That is why I came up with FX-13. But I guess I should find X028 than
Royster Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Looking smart thus far! London flight? 772 Squadron wasn't it? (One of the best! hehe)
bexwh773 Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 (edited) Hi Python, Are you aware that Italeri managed to mold the tail rotor blades the wrong way around? Superb work so far on my favourite Egg Beater Bexy Edited August 11, 2011 by bexwh773
Darby Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 I did mine in Xtracolour dark green a few years ago. Looked good enough for me.
perdu Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 That's looking very nice, a far better moulding than Matchbox's, though I have reservations about the width of the filter "box" My HC2 is coming along I must start a "in progress" for it This one looks like a Wessex, really nice
Python66 Posted August 12, 2011 Author Posted August 12, 2011 Thanks for all the replies. So, the Wessex is going 'on hold' for now. I have to order Xtracolour first. I hope to continue next monday or tuesday. Pics will follow
Python66 Posted September 6, 2011 Author Posted September 6, 2011 So, my Wessex is painted in Xtracolour. I like the way it turned out. Hope you like it too. Comments are welcome.
RNoAF Aerobatic Team Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Strange helo, that thing! But I like what you have done to it. It gives a man inspiration to get into modelling again. Just buying a lot of stuff now...
Col. Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 The colour certainly look correct to me and the quality of your painting is also very good. Take it you will be applying the decals now?
Harry Lime Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 I'm looking forward to seeing this one finished. That colour looks spot on to me. The Wessex is an ugly beast, but I like building them. I've got 2 completed and 3 in the stash and no doubt I'll add one or two more over the next wee while.
Python66 Posted September 7, 2011 Author Posted September 7, 2011 The Wessex is an ugly beast, but I like building them. I've got 2 completed and 3 in the stashSame here. I build the UH-34 Seahorse a few years ago and I love the build. But it is definitely not the most beautiful helicopter ever designed. Thanks for all the comments. Yes, I am now getting ready to apply the decals. Also the rotors aren't finished and need a paintjob.
Python66 Posted October 4, 2011 Author Posted October 4, 2011 Hello everybody, This last week I added the decals. Now, I could use your help now. The pics were taken with flash, so the OD is much brighter than in real. It is quite dark in real. So now I am in doubt. I like the contrast between the white and the OD. But isn't the contrast too much ? Should I blend the white decals more with the OD. And what would be the best way to do it ? Let me know what you think.
Abacus Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Looking good. Very fond of the Wessex, only flying thing we saw growing up.
