Today's progress on the Dauntless

First the underside, wasn't too happy with the coverage.

That looks really fantastic Mish. It's a real pity the cowling has to be fitted, that engine looks superb.

The gunners position looks excellent too.

Just as a slightly off topic (and possibly stupid) question... Was there anything to stop the rear gunner shooting their own tail off?

From what I can see from the model and my research there is nothing to stop him shooting himself down. It apears to be a free mounted .30 Cal and in later models (just after this one) they switched to twin .30 Cals.

My old man was a door gunner on flying boats for part of the war, he said that the rear gun on navy planes had a manual interupter that prevented fire if the gun barrels were pointed at the tail, similar to the interupter gear used in nose guns.
